Secondary Vault Deleted

I made a secondary vault in the first update the feature came with. Today I come to find out that it is nowhere to be found, deleted completely. I only have the options of creating a new vault, and this is how I noticed I could not switch to my secondary vault. I just updated the app to V 4.1 (410009), but I don't know if this was the cause or any previous updates, as I have just noticed it.

Anyhow, anyone else experiencing the same thing??

    Hi, @breton.

I'm sorry that a secondary vault you'd created has now mysteriously disappeared from 1P4. Was its creation during beta testing?

Here are steps that will hopefully help you recover it:

    • Run 1P4.
    • Open Preferences… > Backup and click Show Files; see this article: Where the backup files are stored?
    • After the Finder window containing your 1P4 backup files opens when hovering any filename in Icons view you'll see a tooltip like this:

    • Notice the number of profiles; it's the number of vaults in that particular backup of your 1P4 database.

    • Switching to a different view in the Finder window can make it easier to check the number of profiles in all the backup filenames, looking for the most recent that has more than one profile.
    • If you do find a multi-profile backup to restore then switch back to 1P4.
    • Export any items to a 1PIF file (Note: this data will be unencrypted) that are newer than the backup being restored from, which you can import later.
    • Open the Preferences> Backup window again, select the backup file to restore, and click Restore.
    • Import the 1PIF file that you exported earlier, if any, and verify all your items are in the current 1P4 vault.
    • Select File > Backup to create a current 1P4 database backup.
    • In Finder, trash the 1PIF file and select Finder > Secure Empty Trash….

Please let me know how that works out or if you need more help. Thanks!

    Hi,

    Thanks for the reply.

I just noticed that there seems to be a problem with the sync file database, or something about the app interpreting the other vault, because if I login with my main computer (Mac mini) where I created the secondary vault...both vaults are present...yet when I try to look for the secondary vault in my other computer, it is just playing missing. I don't even have an option to switch into any other vault.

I don't understand what is wrong since both 1Password apps are using the very same database in Dropbox to sync. All apps and OS are up-to-date.

    Thanks!

    Hi, @breton.

Is Dropbox syncing only configured for the primary vault on your Mac mini? Each vault has separate syncing preferences that need to be configured for any secondary vault(s) you'd like to share with your other Mac, as documented here:

How to share a non-primary vault

However, from Known Issues in 1Password 4 for Mac:

    • [Important] If you have multiple vaults and you're syncing with Dropbox to your mobile devices, do not enable the sync for other vaults other than the primary one yet. The current iOS app does not support multiple vaults and may in fact sync one of your other vaults into the primary vault you're using in the iOS app. There will be a future iOS app update to support multiple vaults.

Are you currently syncing with any mobile devices?

    Hi sjk,

Thanks! I did not realize he secondary vault needed a separate sync, I thought the settings on the primary also dealt with the secondary.

I do use sync with mobile devices. I should hold setting this up then, or should I switch to iCloud instead, what would be the best option?...any ETA on the iOS update with multiple vault support?

    Thanks

    Hi, @breton.

It would be a lot trickier to implement sharing if only a single keychain contained all vaults. :)

Multiple vault support for iOS is no small feature, though it is at the top of our developers' list and we will get it done ASAP. Keep an eye on the Agile Blog and/or subscribe to the AgileBits Newsletter for any announcements.
