Which way goes "sync" work for iMac and iPhone pairing?

If I change a pw in my iMac, then sync with my iph, which way does the sync change occur?
And is the syncing always the same direction. iMac to iph, or iph to iMac, or does it recognise the latest and sync either way?

Its should be Bi direction (both ways) in my understanding. I don't use it but use Dropbox syncing so I am able to sync where ever I happen to be. Near or far from my Mac.
