Dropbox App Requirement

Just curious why you guys still require the standalone dropbox app when you can use the storage API in the Mac App. Very similar to what you do in the mobile app.

Seems kind of odd needing to have to install one program to make another one work when the API's are there.

    Hi @dandorato,

    There are pros and cons for both the Dropbox app and the Dropbox API.

    The biggest reason we use the Dropbox app is simplicity and speed. It's easier for us to use something that is already available for Mac (the official Dropbox app), rather than build something ourselves using the API. And more importantly, we find that the Dropbox app is much faster than their third party API.

    Though, the nice thing about the API is we would be able to sync even if the user's Dropbox app isn't running (or isn't installed like you mentioned).
