Feature Request: Custom Templates and Categories

I really like 1Password, but wanted to suggest a couple of options:

  1. create a default layout for each category (I am UK-based, so my bank accounts have different terminology for the various fields you offer, and it's annoying to have to reformat the 'card' each time!)
  2. allow renaming of categories (e.g. the US "social security" to UK "National Insurance" cards)
  3. the option to show/hide certain categories in the left side bar, but not have to hide/show only all or none of them.

Thank you
Jack

It's nice a nice touch that Agilebits put time into creating pre-populated field templates and making custom icons for the categories, but the categories have always felt more limiting than helpful. While I'm sure many users appreciate the organization assistance these preset categories offer, it would be nicer to have a bit more flexibility and be able to add my own categories or types. I'd prefer to be able to organize info into my own categories or groupings, or at least have categories that are generic enough that my info doesn't feel like it's miscategorized.

    Hi @jfrench,

Thanks so much for taking the time to write in to us here. We've heard a lot of user feedback on categories. It's really a tricky balance between having enough to be useful to the majority of people, and having so many that each item fits in a separate category. Our developers are currently considering how to make categories an even more useful feature, and I'd be happy to pass along your thoughts to them. :)

Car category is missing. (plates, model, year, VIN etc.)

You cannot currently move an item from one category to another. That is because the various categories have different standard fields so the fields from one category will not automatically translate into the fields of a different category. The easiest way to achieve what you want is probably to re-create the item in your preferred category (unless someone comes along with a better idea!).

Why not use a secure note for details of your car? After all, you're never going to need to login from that item, or to complete all the details on screen like an identity would. :) If you have a lot of cars you can create the format you want in a secure note then right click to duplicate it. You could use tags to find anything related to "car" quickly.

    I know it's not what you requested but it's a workable work-around.

    How to create new categories?

Is there a category to include assets? (Home, Cars, Hardware, etc)

    Hi @a0alv‌,

I've merged several posts together here, since you're all keen on the same thing.

Unfortunately, at this point it is not possible to create new categories in 1Password. As I've mentioned above, adding new categories (and being able to change an item from one category to another) is a very popular request.

I'm happy to add your votes to this request.

    Hi there,

It is possible to create "pseudo-templates" in existing categories, like @MikeT posted about in the beta forum (slightly edited for emphasis/clarification):

If you create a lot of items in those [currently predefined] categories, you can create blank items with the list of custom fields/sections you want, and from those items, you can right-click on it in 1Password 4 to select Duplicate, and the duplicate will have the same list of custom fields/sections that you can quickly fill in.

    >

That lets you have custom templates in a way, so you don't have to keep adding the same field/section all the time.

    And @‌DS625 expanded on it:

I've added Tags to my "custom" templates, and created Smart Folders to filter based on those tags. Then, I've hidden the pre-defined Categories so things look the way I want.

I hope that's helpful for you guys. :)
