+1 ownCloud & alternatives to DropBox

Any update on ownCloud syncing when used as a shared 1Password vault?

We've noticed the numbers do not match (eg; one computer notes 60 entries and the other 83).

    Thank you! :)

Another +1 for owncloud. I understand you can't support every syncing mechanism out there but owncloud is an open and highly accessible alternative to third party controlled syncing solutions. I think it would provide a nicely packaged option for many 1Password customers with a single open platform to integrate with. Thank you for your consideration.

Agiles. Please implement OwnCloud Sync. Why you guys do not listen to your customers?

    Hi @DonKingMat,

I've merged your post with an existing thread regarding OwnCloud and I've added your voice to the feature request to see this happen.

We do listen to our customers but there sadly has to also be a delicate balancing between the various requests, bug fixing and merely adapting to the latest software Apple provides. Sometimes, I'm not saying here though, a particular request simply wouldn't be beneficial to enough people to warrant massive amounts of development time. Sometimes it's a case of waiting for compatibility to make it to all the required platforms and so on.

WebDav, which I see has been mentioned a couple of times here suffers from performance issues, at least that is my understanding. It might be OwnCloud is more optimised for what we need and like all feature requests it will be properly considered and not closed until it has been given the attention it deserves. Sadly I cannot offer a timeframe at all or have any idea what the decision at the end will be. We do see people want an alternative to Dropbox and iCloud though.

    dear littlebobbytables.

thank you for your detailed answer so far. just to explain a bit i want to make sure that you please understand that i am rely on the act. implemented crypto mechanism within your software to protect my data. but no one "really" can explain if there might not be any poke in mathematics algorithms which knowledge only at a few people around the world. anymore no one "really" are able to name the people they are coding and deliver dropbox for free and also icloud and it could be possible that secret and unknown people are have knowledge in both. deep backdooring in the well known crypto's and the offer dropbox for free. both are not really transparent - for reasons :o)

the best way to only make it a bit more harder for governance and all those strange thinking guys is - to make it more complex to read out our data (the very uninteresting informations of our private live).

for a better feeling regarding our privacy - please +1 and +1 and furthermore +1 again for implementing ownCloud compatibility.

i hope no "agent smith's" are also assimilate your company like the ones they killing truecrypt - i am not an american citizen so the outside look onto USA is: every company which touching, coding, implementing security software is objected by "agent smith's" and you have to follow the rules they are apply to you. that is my only self-explanation why the opensource cloud plattform owncloud can not be implemented fast ....

no worries at all please! i understand all the needs that agencies will protect your country. but not all poeple around the world are bad.

my data should be kept in my environment.

anyway - thank you for your very nice 1Password!!! +1 also for it.

    regards, m.

Come on Agilebits, implementing Owncloud support is taking far too long. I've been a long time user of 1Password and have invested quite a lot of money across three platforms but there's other competing products that now support Owncloud, which I'm currently assessing before I jump ship for good.
Owncloud support should be mandatory in these security conscious times for our precious passwords.

    DonKingMat and flimflam,

Thank you for letting us know you are interested in this! :)

We have investigated WebDAV in the past and found it to be far too slow for the quick reads and writes needed for your 1Password data. But I'll add your votes for ownCloud.

For now, it is possible to use just about any sync solution with 1Password for Mac since the app can access the entire file system in OS X. You can do this with Folder Sync:

    1Password for Mac: Folder Sync

However, on iOS (since all apps are sandboxed) the sync needs to be built into the app itself. We would need to build in support for ownCloud if you wanted to use it on iOS. The solution at this time, if you want a solution that does not use the "public cloud" (despite how well-protected your data actually is), you could use Folder Sync (with ownCloud) on the desktop and then Wi-Fi Sync to your mobile device(s):

    1Password for Mac: Wi-Fi Sync

If we can be of further assistance, please let us know. We are always here to help.

    Cheers!
