Controlling backups

I can't find a way to control the backup settings. I'd like to keep all backups in a location of my choice and also control how many backups to keep. Further, in the new release I received today there is a new function that keeps one monthly backup for two years. Did I understand that right? In my opinion this is completely unnecessary. Maybe some folks like that but to me it just eats up valuable disk space. Unfortunately, it seems to be a trend among developers to take away control from the users when it comes to controlling backups and data file locations. The new Omnifocus keeps 100 backups in a folder deep inside the Library folder without any way of controlling it. All in all, many apps = many backup files = less disk space. I appreciate your concern for my data safety but please let me decide how I use my computer and where to store my files. I like automation but only when it is controlled by me.

  • Hi @rolling,

The backup settings in 1Password 4 for Mac are not currently customizable, and I'm not aware of any plans to change that. However, I can certainly pass your feedback along to our developers for their consideration.

Please do. I cannot for the life of me understand why such an important feature has been removed. 1Password is the Rolls Royce of password managers and priced accordingly. There is absolutely no reason to lock users out of backup control.

You may be interested to see the reasoning behind not allowing customisable backup locations. See, in particular, posts #6 and #8 in this thread. You may not agree with the reasoning but at least you'll know what it is!
