Submit Logins in 1Password Mini [Submit the form, so you can be logged in automatically]

Hi @Mr. K.,
It simulates pressing the enter key after 1Password fills in your data. Basically, it fills the data in and then submit the form, so you can be automatically logged in without clicking on the Login button.
You can find out more here: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-mac/5/en/topic/browser-preferences

I can't get this to work consistently. MacBook Air / Yosemite 10.10.2 / Safari / 1Password 5.1. "Automatically submit..." is checked. All entries on the login card are identical to what gets me into the website manually. But when I double-click the card, I usually need to click "Login" and then [CMD ] to load the password and enter the website.
Sorry, but I'm losing confidence in this software, and won't ever try the random secure passwords until this works!

Hi @sabobrian1936,
Just to clarify, once the site has loaded you need to click a link called Login before you can proceed to using 1Password to fill and submit, is that correct?
The ability to fill on a page does assume that the login is visible. If when you click on the Login link it takes you to a brand new page have you tried storing that URL in the Login item instead of the URL you do have? It's like the difference between recording http://www.amazon.com (no login on page) and https://www.amazon.com/ap/signin/... (shortened for brevity).
If the Login link is opening a small 'window' on the current page, like how our forums or Dropbox work, then there isn't much we can do about that at the moment. We need that window to be visible before you can fill.
If neither of those scenarios apply then how would you feel about pointing us to the website in question so we can take a look.

The website on which I've spent several hours is for credit cards on citi.com. Right now I have two citi "Items."
The first Item is the one from yesterday, with the a correct website (when I copy and paste, it takes me to the citi login page), the correct user ID and password (when I enter them manually on the login page I get into my account). But when I instead double-click the 1Password item, after quickly seeing the username and password entered automatically, I get a message that I've entered the incorrect information.
The second Item is one I just generated automatically through 1Password. It also gets the incorrect information message. BUT, when I edit the Item, I see the password is listed as "a" which is what happened yesterday many times (and even getting me "b" and "c" on further tries). Changing the "a" to the correct password ends up with the message of incorrect information.
Other websites often require clicking on Login before proceeding, at least they eventually get there (but maybe with CMD backslash required in addition).
Some websites have no problem.0 -

It's worth searching the forums for "citi". I know nothing specific myself, but have seen lots of messages about the citi site, with problems and also some explanations of why it is difficult.
Generally, bank sites are difficult because of the way they design their coding.
I have found at least one of my credit card sites where the username fills in, but I have to click the button in order to reach the next page, where the password is asked for. This is even though the 1PW entry is set to auto-submit.

Hi @sabobrian1936,
Citi login sites are notoriously difficult when it comes to creating working Login items in 1Password. Our developers are working on improving this in the future. For now, there are other discussions about this on our forums with tips that might help. If you haven't already done so, you might have some luck by trying this:
- Visit the login page: https://www.citi.com/credit-cards/creditcards/CitiHome.do
- Enter your password first (type it manually, or copy/paste) and then enter your username, but don't submit the form yet.
- Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar, then the gear icon next to the search field, and choose Save new Login.
- Change the title so you can easily tell the new Login apart from the old one, then click the Save button.
- Refresh the page, then try to have 1Password fill your info using the new login.
If that doesn't work, this post has some information from a customer which might help (it looks like you may have already seen that).
If you're still having trouble creating a working Login item, then as danco suggested, you might want to try searching our forums for "citi" to see other suggestions & workarounds. Hopefully that helps, but we're here for you if you have additional questions or need more assistance with that. Thanks!

That gets me into the website and the page I need (Accounts). BUT, when I look at the password now stored for that Login, I see it is "a" and not the one it should have saved!

More info: When I then edit the Login to correct the "a" password, attempting to login gets me to the login webpage, with my username filled in, but password showing pink color and no password. Doing the CMD back-space doesn't accomplish anything.

correction: Doing the ⌘\ doesn't accomplish anything. Finally found the ⌘ key!

Hi @sabobrian1936,
If the steps from my previous message help to create a working Login item, there's no need to change anything. When you save a Login item using the 1Password browser extension, 1Password saves details about the web form on that page, including the field names the site uses internally for the login form, which are often used by 1Password to fill your login info. The web form field names on Citi login pages are a bit unusual, and the result is that the Login item may not appear as expected (although it may still work correctly).
To see what I mean, try following my previous steps again to create a working Login item for that Citi login site. Once you've created it, open the main 1Password app and find the new Login. You said the main password field shows the letter 'a', so your actual password should be saved somewhere else. Click the
show web form details
button, and your password should be in one of the fields there. (Incidentally, this is exactly what the customer from this post described as well.)At any rate, if my steps help you create a working Login, it should continue to work as long as you don't change those fields.

Now it's working! Deleted some "a" and "b" etc. Not sure that I did anything new, and the login entries look the same as I've been trying for two days!
Thanks for the help.

Hi @sabobrian1936,
We're working on a new filling logic. I don't know how it handles the Citi website as I'm not even in the right country to have an account but I've seen good things from it elsewhere. The banks are often tricky to work with.
Part of what you've observed is to do with something called web form details. When you save via the extension it does its best to record as much information as possible. With some sites this doesn't help as trust me, what you see is just scratching the surface of what is there on a web page. If you were to look at the source you'd probably weep (that's usually my reaction). So sometimes 1Password stores the username and password in web form details but incorrectly guesses which fields represent your username and password. It will probably seems less insane once you've used it for a little while. We can certainly help/guide until you're comfortable with it.
You should find most sites behave better, it's usually the banks and financial sites that trip us up, it's extremely hard to fully test these due to needing an account.

This technique also works for tidalhifi.com (which has the same problem).

That's good to know. Thanks @dmoor.
