How to change primary vault password?
Hey,
I am a recent 1password user: iOS and mac. I think this application is great but I have some doubts after the following experience.
I started with iphone and created a password for primary vault on iCloud. Then I happily decided to purchase the Mac app.
Being not satisfied with my initial vault password, I decided to modify it, through master password change. Now my master passwords are same for mac and iphone and I am OK with it.
A few weeks later, I also install 1 password on my ipad, connect to cloud to sync and.... realize that I still need to use my initial password. So the security of it is definitely not as I was thinking.
It's been one hour I am surfing on the net to learn how to change it but still no clue, despite looking very easy question.
Can someone help me?
Many thanks,
Swid

I had a similar situation. It's kinda like the device is synced to an older configuration. In my case, I turned sync off and back on at each of my devices (one at a time). That solved it for me. My hunch is that you need to turn sync off and back on only in the iPad but it certainly wouldn't hurt to do it on all of the devices.

Just in passing, if you're changing your master password you need to read this post. Merely changing your master password does not change the key with which your data is encrypted. It's a little complicated but careful reading of the linked post will explain the situation and what you can do about it.

Hi @Swid,
First of all, I'd like to thank you for choosing to support 1Password - we really appreciate it!
Lately we have been tracking a few cases of changes to a Master Password not syncing to all devices. This is because of the way the datafile is designed - and it does not mean that your data is not syncing or that anything is wrong. At this time, we generally recommend updating the Master Password manually across all devices.
However, if you've just added your iPad to the mix and it's still asking for the old Master Password, I'm wondering if there might be something wonky going on. I'd like to ask you to create some Diagnostics Reports, one from each of your devices.
—Mac—
https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#mac4—iOS—
https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#ios4Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@agilebits.com
Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
A short note here once you've sent the Report in will help us to keep an eye out for it. :)
Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

In your link, the following words appear. Please explain how to do that. How do I "move the old data aside?"
"Then move your old data aside and create a fresh 1Password data file (which 1Password will prompt about if it doesn't find a data file where it expects one)."

@Plato where your data is depends on which version you are running. If you are using the AgileBits store version it's stored in:
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/Data/
If you're using the Mac App Store version it's stored in:
~/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper/Data/Library/Data/
It's the relevant one of those folders that you thus need to move in the process referred to in the post to which I linked.

OK. I found the folder. Where do I move it to? If something goes wrong, can I recover by moving the original folder back? Should I trash the old folder when finished?

@Plato, you can put it wherever you can find it again (in case of emergency)—the Desktop, for example. I'm sure the idea is that you can move it back if something goes wrong but I've not tried that. Clearly if all goes well you can trash the old folder once you're comfortable you have all your data under the new master password.

Sounds good. Thanks.
I see another folder inside "Containers" with the label:
com.agilebits.onepassword-osxShould I also move that one or should I leave it alone?

I had a bit of a problem importing the original information from the 1pif file:
What should I do?

Did you try double-clicking on the 1Pif file?

I'm pretty sure Plato's issue has been resolved in another thread so it's just @Swid now. How do we stand with your original issue?
