Alternate Method (if there is one) to Save New Login

Hi, I've used 1Password for a long time (and love it) but I must admit I've never been a pro at "saving new logins". If I recall, I think you guys have directed me before to a method or two beyond just saying "Save New Login" as a way to create a new login for some given site. I have two different credit cards, both from the same overarching company, but over the years they will change one website and not the other for some period of time. I visit these sites often so it's helpful to have 1Password enter the URL, the username and password for me. One of those two sites works fine today. But the other recently began to balk at entering my password. It enters the URL and username but then just sits. I have that happen on many sites many times before and sometimes what works is to simply create and Save and New Login. If the new one works I toss the old one and away I go. But sometimes that just doesn't work. In fact, when I've done "Save New Login" for this particular site recently, even though I manually enter the REAL password, when I next try my new login, sure enough in now enters a password for me and sends me to the site but the password is WRONG. I look at what is saved in the login and it is simply the letter "a" which certainly won't work.

What I do to "Save New Login" is manually go to the URL, manually enter the Username and Password, then I go click "Save New Login". Is that how I'm supposed to being doing it?? And since that doesn't seem to be working, didn't you once direct me to some alternate method??? I have a vague memory of such.

Let me know... thanks.. bob

    Hi Bob ( @diitto‌ ),

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble here. You're right, those 'Save new Login' steps are always our first try when a Login acts up. In your case though, it sounds like something is going a little bit wonky. Since you're already doing everything right, it's our turn to do a little bit of digging.

Could you please let us know which URL is acting up for you? We'll test it here and see if we can determine where things are getting tangled up.

Hi Megan, It's the Login page for the AT&T Universal Card, the URL for which is
    https://www.accountonline.com/cards/svc/OutsideView.do?forward=Index&siteId=AC

This card is under the umbrella of Citi Cards. Like another Citi Card account I have, this Universal Card used to work just fine, meaning 1Password could successfully enter the URL, the credentials and then connect me to my account. The other Citi Card still works that way but recently the Universal Card ceased to enter the Password and would instead just sit there at that field.

When I attempt to so a "Save New Login" for this site, even though I enter the REAL password in the password field, after saving the Login, when I go look at the Password, all I find is the letter "a". So the "Save New Login" does NOT save the real password. It gets even better cause I then go into the new login, edit the password field, toss the single letter and enter the real password. I then save that and give that a try. Even that fails as it tells me I've entered the wrong information.

But I then I just go to the above URL and manually enter precisely the same correct Usename and Password (by cut and paste) and it works fine.

The last interesting tidbit is when I go into the New Login and look at "show web form details". As I said above I see the letter "a" for Password in the single Password field in the New Login and that, of course, is not the real password. When I open "show web form details, I see ONE LINE for Username (makes sense) but then I see FIVE LINES, each labeld "Password". The first is the letter "a" (so that's where the Password comes from in the main Password line above in the New Login. The next line is the letter "b", then "c" for the third line and "d" for the 4th line. No wonder this doesn't work. And then the 5th line IS the real password but clearly that never gets entered into anything, not by 1Password anyway.

So maybe they are trying to defeat these automated systems by somehow injecting the abcd stuff.

Anyway, you asked and their is all the info I know...

My guess is I will just have to work this one manually which is what I've been doing for a while now.

    Holler if you see some

    Hi @diitto‌

We've come across that one before, unfortunately it means being a bit more creative than normal as it does some weird stuff. Check out this post from Megan from another thread, I think this is what you need.

Hi, I see in the in the link you, littlebobbytables, sent me to that there is also this strange "a", "b", "c" and "d" fields in the password section of the login. Does anyone know what's up with that??? What it means??? Does it neet to be there???

    thanks... bob

    Hi @diitto‌

It should be safe to update both the normally visible username and password section so you have a record of them and the ability to easily copy and past if need be. If you look in the web forms section, all you need to do is ensure the username and password fields there show the same data.

If you have any problems just post back.
