New login does not respect current protocol (http / https)

Hi

I've found that 1Password does not respect the current protocol when creating new login entries. Regardless of whether the current site is HTTP or HTTPS, the website field in the login entry always defaults to HTTP. This causes problems with some sites that do not respond over HTTP (i.e. no automatic redirect to HTTPS).

To work around this, I have to manually edit the login entry and explicitly add the "https://" prefix to the url. I also find it frustrating that the protocol is not displayed on the form, so there's no way to tell whether it'll use HTTP / HTTPS unless you go into edit mode.

Is this a known issue? Is it being addressed?

I'm using version 5.0.2 of 1Password and Firefox 33.1.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hi @sjg,

That does sound like an issue, and it doesn't seem to be one we're tracking yet. I just tried to reproduce it here and wasn't able to though. Here's what I tried, in both Safari and Firefox:

    • I loaded https://bitbucket.org/account/signin/, and put in a username and password
    • Using the extension, I selected "Save new Login" from the gear menu
    • I opened up the newly created item and verified that the login item's URL did in fact contain https.

Could you specify which site you're having this issue with? I'm using a developer build of 1Password 5.1 here, but I can't think of anything we've changed since 5.0.2 that would affect this. Would love to fix this issue for you.

    Thanks

    Rick
