There is no way into the vault unless you know the master password. There is no back door and Agilebits doesn't store this info also.

How can I scrap everything and start over? He has iPhone 6+ and MacBook pro

I am guessing it's almost like this...
https://discussions.agilebits.com/discussion/comment/135402/#Comment_135402I re-encrypted my 1Password (made a new password) but not sure if it would be the same. I would wait until @Megan or @khad for help.
Edit: this is for re-encrypting, not starting over.

The people here wIll correct me if I am wrong, but I think just delete everything. If you got it from the Mac app store and from the iOS App Store, probably delete everything and the back up in iCloud, then redown load everything again.

I'm sorry to hear that you've been having trouble with 1Password right now. It sounds like you've been getting some great advice here already, but I'll just go into a bit more detail here.
As @prime mentions above, your master password is known only by you. This is for your privacy, and your security. We cannot reset it for you and you cannot change it without entering the old one. There is also no "back door" to access your data without the master password. If there were, that would be a security hole that criminals could exploit to steal your information.
If you think you know what the password is, but it is not being accepted, please try some of these tips.
- If you have accents such as è, î and so on, try replacing it with the regular character such as e for è and see if that’ll get you in.
- Try leaving the caps lock on and/or off. You can also try copying and pasting your master password in a text editor. Make sure it’s an editor that doesn’t sync to the cloud automatically (you wouldn’t want to expose your password in clear view). Copy the password and then paste into the master password field in 1Password.
- If you entered the password hint for this data file, 1Password will show it automatically in a prompt after every three incorrect attempts. Confirm it’s the right hint that you entered because if not, you may be looking at a different data file.
Please try each tip, for we have found them to be the most common causes of this problem. If you cannot remember the password, you will need to restore from a backup or start over. You can do a restore from File > Restore, or you can start over using this link.

If you've really never stored anything in your 1Password data file then starting over is really easy -- but you'll want to make sure and provide a good "password hint" so you don't forget the master password again.

i did this and i still cannot get it figured out. I am growing very frustrated! How can i scrub any trace of this app from my icloud and then can i remove the app from my macbook pro then reinstall the app and start from scratch? My father only has about 2 websites set up in the app. He cannot log into the app on his macbook pro at all.

@toddwlarson - good for you! Can you reveal your solution as an aid to others with similar issues? At least a general description of what you did?

I took Megans advice and performed the "start over". I still kept getting a message and i couldnt figure out how to deal with the vault(?) in the icloud. Well after putzing around i found out how to remove the data on the icloud and then i restarted the macbook pro. The next time i opened the 1password mac app I was offered the option to set up as a first timer! BAM! there it is!! Do you want to know the specifics on how i deleted the info off of the icloud?

Yes, I would be interested in how you found the information at iCloud and deleted it.

I went to System Preferences and clicked on icloud then i clicked on "manage" in the bottom right corner of the icloud window in order to manage my icloud storage. When the next window opened up i clicked on 1password near the left edge of the new window. I then chose the button labed "deleted documents and data". Then i closed system preferences and then opened 1password app on macbook pro. It behaved like i just downloaded the app to my macbook pro.!
hope that makes sense!thanks0 -
Thanks. That's more or less what I was hoping you would find. And others will thank you later when they find this thread when looking to solve a similar situation.

I moved this thread from the Lounge to the Mac forum, where it is more likely to be found by others needing the information it contains.

There are two other options.
- You can also delete the iCloud sync data via 1Password's menus at Help > Troubleshooting > Reset iCloud Data and that should be accessible even if the vault is locked
- The other option is on the locked vault screen where it says click here to select a different option. That will bring up a small window where you can say to ignore the iCloud data and create a new vault.
Anyway, I'm glad you resolved it toddwlarson
