Chrome Browser Extension Enters Double Password For One Website Only

When I go to my bank's website and hit cmd+\ to auto-fill the username/password fields, the password that the extension puts into the field is basically doubled. For example, if my password was "password," the extension enters "passwordpassword." I guarantee this is not an issue of having saved the password in 1Password incorrectly, although it may be some setting I've incorrectly saved. I usually just hover over the browser extension and copy the password and paste into the field manually (this is also how I know I've saved the correct password). This is a legacy issue as I had this problem with 1Password 3 before upgrading a few months ago to continue to have the issue.

This only occurs on my bank's website (usaa.com). I am using 1Password 4.4.1 synced with Dropbox and primarily use Chrome Version 39.0.2171.71 (64-bit). And yes, I have attempted to uninstall/reinstall the 1Password 4 Chrome extension.

  • Hi @jerohmyah‌,

I've just tested here using usaa.com using 1Password 5, Chrome 39.0.2171.71 (64-bit) with latest Chrome extension and it worked correctly here. Could you try using the "Save new Login" option under the mini's Gear menu? This will allow you to either update or create a new entry for the website and may fix whatever is broken.

Let us know how this works out.

I can confirm the same behavior in Safari, Firefox, and Chrome on OS X 10.10.

I tried the suggested fix above and it didn't work. The "Save New Login" option created a new entry with a username of I don't know what with no password. I updated it with the correct information, and got the same result.

USAA tends to be extremely helpful to members with technical issues. If it would help to have a member open a ticket with them to help you troubleshoot, please send me an email with a technical contact I can provide them and I'm happy to try opening a ticket.

Its one of the websites I find most important to run through 1Password, and this slows the whole process drastically.

    Hi @dustinmr,

Is this problem happening with only usaa.com, or have you had the same problem with other sites as well? It will also be helpful if you can let us know the following:

    • What versions of Safari, Firefox, and Chrome are you using?
    • What version of the 1Password extension do you have installed in the browsers?
    • Which version of 1Password is installed, and is it the Mac App Store version or the web store version?

    Thanks!

    Currently:

    1Password Mac App: Version 5.0.2
    1Password extension: 4.2.5
    Safari: 8.0.2
    Chrome: Version 39.0.2171.95 (64-bit)
    Firefox: 35.0

But this has been going on at least since the Version 5 release. I didn't have the bank in 1Password before then, so I don't know if it was an issue prior.

    Its only happening with usaa.com.

    Hi @dustinmr‌

I just followed our Saving a Login Manually guide to create a fake Login item for their main page at https://www.usaa.com/inet/ent_logon/Logon?redirectjsp=true using my favoured browser Safari.

It created a new Login item with the correct username and password in both the visible section and the web form details section. When I use it to fill in it successfully filled in both the username and password although as I don't have an account I can't confirm what happens if you click on the Log On button.

Can you follow the guide for us please and then describe the created item. I'm puzzled why we're having trouble replicating your findings at the moment.

Tried again, and this time with success. The instructions are the same that I used previously. Not sure what's different. Maybe that this time I typed the password in and previously I had copy/pasted from 1Password?

Sometimes all that matters @dustinmr‌ is eventually it works  don't get me wrong, understanding is always handy but I suspect we'll take the win this time?

If you have any further questions or issues though please do ask as we'll be here!
