tried to update 1password 4, now locked out of the app on my mac
i tried to update ipassword4 on my mac (because my dropbox sync with iPhone wasn't working), and at the end of the download and install, i now get a this message:
"Beta Build Expired -- please download and install the latest beta build"
i can't access my 1password at all on my computer, which is mavericks operating system. i tried downloading the latest 1password, but that won't run on my operating system.
help please!
secondary question: i'm using 1password 5.1.2 on my iPhone. will this not sync with password4 on my mac? it appears not to have synced for 7 weeks. most troubling.

Hi @artkilgour,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password. Let's get you a fresh copy of 1Password 4:
- Use ⌘⌃Q ( Command-Control-Q ) to quit both 1Password and 1Password mini
- Go to our downloads page and scroll to the bottom for the Legacy versions
- Download 1Password 4
- Drag the app into your Applications folder, replacing the version that is currently there.

1Password 5 for iOS should sync just fine with 1Password 4 for Mac. 've got a few basic things that we want to check regarding Dropbox first, before we get into the serious troubleshooting:
- Please ensure that Dropbox is installed and running on your computer
- Check that you are logged in with the same account on all computers and devices
- Confirm that Dropbox sync is selected in 1Password > Preferences > Sync on your Mac
- Confirm that Dropbox is selected in Settings > Sync on your iOS device, and that both your Mac and iOS device are reading from the same file path in Dropbox.
If all of those items check out, let's run a test and see where things are getting tripped up:
- Create a test entry on your Mac ("Test, Mac") and add some data
- Create a test entry on each of your iOS devices ("Test, iPhone/iPad") and add some data
- Does "Test for Mac" show up on either of your iOS devices?
- Does "Test for iPhone" and/or "Test for iPad" show up on your Mac?
- Log in to the Dropbox website and click on the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain folder
- Enter your Master Password
- Do either or any of your test entries show up in your database here?
Please let me know the results of this little experiment - once we have a better idea of where things are going sideways, we should be able to get this straightened out simply for you :)

all excellent advice Megan. everything is working now. not sure why sync stopped working, because i hadn't changed anything. anyway, once i got 1password4 working on my mac again, i un-linked it from dropbox on my iPhone, then relinked. then it synced up. i did your test, and the mac and phone exchanged files almost immediately. how often does the sync happen? i don't see any setting for that. is the iPhone app constantly monitoring for changes to the file?
and a third question:
i must learn how to learn the vaults, so that i'm not running different sets of 1passwords on my 2 devices (mac and phone) and my wife's 3 devices (phone, desktop, laptop). can you point me to the best learning resource for that?
thanks,

Hi @artkilgour
I'm so glad to hear that you're up and running again!

When you update a Login on your Mac, the details will be updated in the local database, and in the copy of your database stored in the Dropbox folder. The Dropbox app on your computer is monitoring the Dropbox folder. It will notice that changes have been made, and sync those changes to the cloud. (You'll notice just after saving an entry in 1Password, the Dropbox app in your menu bar will get a circle with spinning arrows in the corner to indicate that a sync is happening).
In 1Password for iOS, we use Dropbox's API to alert the app when changes are made so that sync can happen in the background.

It just so happens that we have an awesome new section of our User Guide that talks all about multiple vaults and how to get the most out of them:
This is a great overview, but if you have any questions, or would like some more specific guidance on how to achieve your desired setup, please let us know how you'd like your 1Password data organized, and we'll help make it happen. :)
