I am super frustrated trying to move my data from one computer to the other. Your tutorial says to backup data to Dropbox, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do that in iPassword 4. When I downloaded iPassword on my new Mackbook Pro, it was iPassword 5. The old OS is Maverick and the new OS is Yosemite. Help!

    Hi @squareone21‌

On your old MacBook Pro open 1Password and enter 1Password's preferences. Switch to the Backup tab and click the Backup Now button. Then click the Show Files button. Copy the most recent backup to Dropbox, pen drive - whatever you want and move it to your new MacBook Pro. Launch 1Password on your new MacBook Pro and follow the Getting started again on a new computer, using the Restore from backup option.

Let us know how you get along.

In attempting to follow the above directions I am met with 1 password cannot connect with 1 password mini so I cannot create a backup. I have my old hard drive from my old MacBook Pro (10.8.?) directly connected (via usb) to my new MacBook Pro (Yosemite) but the drive was removed from the old macbook because the motherboard failed so I cannot re-boot the system. I do not know where my 1password data are stored I also have used 1password for my iPad and phone but it never synced properly and only has a portion of the passwords from my old macbook pro.

Is there something I can do in this circumstance ?

@JTD that's a different situation and I'd need you to confirm what version of 1Password you were running before as well as wanting to run now. Once we know that we can direct you to where the files are and you can copy the across.

On the old hard drive Version 4.2.2. New MacbookPro has already updated to version 5.0.2

    Hi @JTD‌

What you're looking for will be in one of two places then.

For the Web Store version you want to copy the folder `/Users/[your username]/Library/Application Support/1Password 4'

For the Mac App Store version you want to copy `/Users/[your username]/Library/Containers/2BUA8C4S2C.com.agilebits.onepassword-osx-helper'

Now when I say copy what I mean is copy them to the mirror location on your new drive.

To access the Library folder on your new machine you can use the ⇧⌘G keyboard shortcut in Finder and paste ~/Library/ into the Go to the folder window. In the locations above I've used '[your username]' as an pointer that you need to put the username for your old account in there. With the folder in place 1Password should just continue where you left off.

Do let us know how you get along. If you have any questions or need anything explained in more detail do let us know.
