Get "1Password 5 cannot be opened because of a problem" message
I continue to get this error message. I have reinstalled 1PW5 and got the same message. Any other ideas? Thanks.

Is that the entire message or does it say more?
We have two quite different situations that from memory might have said something like that but both would have supplied more information.
A. is a corrupted download. If it's this and given you've said you've re-installed 1Password 5 I would recommend the following.
- If you purchased 1Password from us (so Agile Web Store). Empty the cache of your browser. For Safari this link will guide to where the Empty Caches option is.
- Drag the 1Password application from your
/Applications/
folder to your Trash. - Reboot
- Download a fresh copy of 1Password 5
B. The other option is if it mentions it couldn't launch the correct version of 1Password mini. If that is the case you have more than one copy of 1Password on your machine but a bug in Yosemite means things go... wrong. The error message will be giving you a hint as to where the other copy is. If you remove it then it should work out.
If neither of these apply I'm afraid we might need some more details as to what is happening. If you can let us know what the full message is please

After beta updates am still getting the "launched wrong version of 1P mini" error message. Image attached shows the files in my Application Support folder. Which files or folders can be trashed, if any?

Here's the full error message: “1PW5 cannot be opened because of a problem. Check with the developer to make sure 1PW5 works with this version of OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and OS X.” I'll try your first recommendation--thanks!

Are you running OS X 10.10 AKA Yosemite? If you are I'd try the first suggestion.
If you're running OS X 10.9 or lower then 1Password 5 is not compatible I'm afraid but we can supply version that is. Just let us know what version of OS X you're running.

I'd say you could remove the entire 1Password 4 folder in that image. If you're running Yosemite I'd assume you're on 1Password 5 now and if you're on Mavericks you would be recommended in running the latest stable given we are no longer doing beta versions of 1Password 4.
You should be able to move it to Trash, reboot and then the error message should disappear.

Yes, I am on Yosemite and on the latest 1Password beta. Unless I hear otherwise in the next day or so, I'll trash the files marked below, assuming the current files are elsewhere.

It's been pointed out that we might be looking at your
~/Library/Application Support/
folder which I didn't twig to. If that's the case this selection is what you would want to do.0 -
Okay, thanks. Will trash all those and see how it goes with the next beta update.

Hi @BlueSkyGirl,
That's great news! Thanks for letting us know what worked for you to get 1Password up and running again. :)

Thanks. Have trashed the 1Password 4 folders as indicated above. Still, it's confusing having to keep a 1Password 4 folder when on 1P5, though one can see the contents there are necessary. Also a bit confusing to have an additional 1Password folder at the top, with no version associated with it. Thanks to both for your help.

Hi @WFA
I wanted to leave the issue of the
~/Library/Application Support/1Password/
folder until after we'd dealt with the more pressing issue of the extra copies of the 1Password 4 application.~/Library/Application Support/1Password/
is the remnants of 1Password 3. If you don't have 1Password 3 any more and feel the old vault serves no purpose, probably due to being rampantly out of date then you can follow the steps in our How do I completely uninstall 1Password? guide (that's for 1Password 3)Part of the reason for keeping the naming convention WFA is probably due to MAS. As 1Password 5 was a free upgrade it may need to have kept the files in the same place - I'm not sure on that. Certainly nothing major changed in most of the support files so doing this allowed for a seamless transition. Hopefully it won't keep you awake

Thanks, LBT. Enough, I think, for one day. The files in the 1Password folder have different names (except 'Backups') than the ones in the 1Password 4 folder, so am reluctant to trash. It's not clear that I can use the uninstaller to delete only that folder. Too tired right now and unwilling to make a mess of things. Things seem to continue to work well.

Success. No bouncing dock icon and 1P mini error message following tonight's beta update.
