Unable to upgrade
Hello, I purchased the upgrade from 3 to 5 Mac. However, I cannot get the 5 version to "add license". It seems to only want to accept uploading a license. It's not clear how to do this when all I have is a long security upgrade code. Lastly, why can I not correspond directly with AgileBits support. You have a lot of competition.

The licensing process has changed since version 3, which use a long alph numeric code to register your copy. That has been replaced in versions 4 and 5 by a license file. When you received the email when you purchased that upgrade, it would have contained a link to click to automatically register your copy by applying that file. I believe there is also information in that email about how to find another copy of it, if the link fails. I have read somewhere here that Gmail sometimes (always?) strips out the link, for some reason, but the other information should be there.
You can also request another copy of the license file here, where you fill in the email address you used to make your purchase. You should be able to get another copy that way too.

Hi @kurtpeters
I'm sorry to hear you've been having trouble with 1Password lately. Please note that the forums are the best and most direct way to get into contact with the AgileBits team at this time. We're monitoring these forums 7 days a week, and you'll see a quicker response here than you will via email.
Now, I've located a license file for 1Password 5 using the email address attached to your forum account, and have resent your license details to that address. The email you receive should include a link to download your license file, as well as instructions on how to install it.
If you have any further questions or concerns, we're here to help!

Thank you, Megan. I received your email and, unfortunately, the only link in your email which did not work was the one for "1password already downloaded." However, I think the license is working.. somehow...although I'm getting the following error.
"The system launched an incorrect version of 1Password mini.
Instead of '/Applications/1Password 5.app/Contents/LoginItems' it started '~/Downloads/1Password 5 3.app/Contents/Library/LoginItems'.
Please make sure you have only one copy of 1Password on your Mac." (I removed 1Password3, by the way, but still get this error). The 1Password version is 5.0.2)
FYI, I installed the 1Password upgrade last week without problems on my just-purchased MacBook Air. The problem I write about is on an older iMac which is running Yosemite.
Thank you.

It's sounds to me as though you need to delete the copy of 1P from your Downloads folder (if you have not already done so). Don't use any app cleaner tool when you do so because it may try to remove files you need to keep. When you have deleted the app from the Downloads folder empty the trash and reboot your Mac. That ought to sort the problem.

Hi @kurtpeters
I'm so sorry for the trouble. Some of the links in that email have a unique structure such that gmail doesn't recognize them as links ... which is something we're working to improve. But I'm glad that the license appears to be working for now. If that changes, do give us a holler!
As far as the 'incorrect version of 1Password mini' goes, this is a particular oddity of Yosemite that we are hoping gets resolved soon. In the meantime though, the solution is to ensure that you only have 1 copy of 1Password installed. Even that copy in your Downloads folder can be incorrectly launched by Yosemite, as Stephen_C mentions.
Once you clear the app from your Downloads folder you should be all set!
