1P on Mac not saving updated logins
I'm a longtime user of 1Password...haven't ever really had any issues until now.
I'm updating passwords (based on Watchtower alerts) and am finding that 1P is no longer prompting me to update the 1P record with new information. I'm typically using Safari, and use the 1P extension to generate a new password (which works just fine), however I'm having to manually copy/paste my new password into the existing 1P record for each change.
I thought this might be isolated to a few web sites, but I'm finding it happens every time.
Any recommendations on how I can troubleshoot?
Thanks in advance,
Jamie

Hi @jsgreen,
I'm sorry to hear 1Password isn't offering to save new passwords to your existing Logins!
Can you confirm if the 1Password extension is working correctly in Safari otherwise? For example, will it fill your existing Login information on websites when you click the 1Password extension and choose your Login, or when you use the ⌘\ keyboard shortcut? When you generate a new password for a site, are you clicking the 1Password extension in the toolbar of Safari, or are you clicking the 1Password mini icon in the menubar of your Mac?
In Safari, please open the Preferences and choose the Extensions tab. Is the 1Password extension enabled there? It may also help if you can let us know a few more details about your setup:
- What version of the 1Password extension is installed in Safari?
- What version of Safari are you using?
- What version of OS X are you running on your Mac?
- What version of the 1Password app is installed? (From the 1Password app, go to the menu for 1Password > About 1Password.)
Thanks!

Hi Drew,
I have confirmed the extension works in Safari (logged out then used it to log back into this forum). When I clicked on the extension, it worked as expected. When I generate a new password, I've been clicking the extension in Safari, not the mini icon (which I've got hidden in Bartender).
Version of 1P Safari extension: 4.3.0.b7
Safari version 8.0.3
OS X version 10.10.2
1P version 5.0.2 (502006) from the Mac App StoreJamie

Hi @jsgreen,
I recommend using the stable (4.2.5 is latest I believe.) extension if you're using 1Password 5.0.2 from the Mac App Store. The beta extensions are built to run against the beta builds of the app. There are no features (that I can think of) in the 4.3 betas that would benefit you unless you're using the 5.1.BETA builds.
Can you revert to 4.2.5 and see if the issue is still there for you?
Thanks
Rick

Thanks Rick, I reverted to 4.2.5 but 1P still does not prompt me to save changes (I changed my password on Yelp.com and Instagram.com as tests.).
I did restart 1P and Safari after I installed the 4.2.5 extension.

Hi @jsgreen,
Hrmm.... ok that's unfortunate. I think the next step would be to either get a Diagnostics Report from you, or have you look at system console messages to see if anything's getting logged. You can send us a diagnostics report by following the instructions on this page. Email that in and include a link to this forum thread so that we can connect the dots. You should also get an email thread ID from our email system. Feel free to post that here in the forum so that myself or another AgileBits rep will know where to go look for the DR.
Alternatively, you might be able to get enough information from just system console messages. To do this:
- Open Console.app from /Applications/Utilities/
- Make sure that 'All Messages' is selected in the left sidebar
- Notice that every console message has a timestamp on the left to tell you when it was logged
- Do what you would normally do that should trigger a prompt to save changes
- See if anything interesting gets logged.
If anything interesting gets logged, feel free to copy/paste it here. Look through it to make sure that it doesn't contain any sensitive information. It shouldn't, but it's worth double checking.
Something else that you should try is to manually save a login via the extension. This triggers a lot of the same code as you should be triggering. So let's make sure that this works too.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Rick

HI @nicomo,
Can I just confirm one preference setting please. In 1Password's preferences, in the Browser tab, what is the Automatically ask to save new Logins set to?
This does have to be enabled to also make use of updating an existing Login item.
