Sync with Dropbox

Hi @buzbye,
Having Dropbox installed is a good start, but it does need to be running in order for 1Password to work its magic.
- Do you have the Dropbox icon in your menu bar?
- If you add a random file to your Dropbox folder in Finder, does the icon in your menu bar show a spinning circle as it updates?
I'd also love to know a little bit more about your 1Password ecosystem to better track this down:
- What are the version numbers of 1Password and your operating system for all computers and devices running 1Password?
- Is your datafile currently stored in Dropbox or are you wanting to move your local database into Dropbox?
- Are you opening 1Password for Mac for the first time?
The more detail you can provide, the more quickly we'll be able to get you sorted out! :)

I am having a similar problem as Buzbye. I have just in the past couple of days installed 1password3 3.8.22 on my MAC running snow leopard 10.6.8. In addition I have an Itouch and an Iphone running 6.1.6 and an Ipad running 8,1,3, In trying to set up 1password on my MAC when I get to the point of "moving to dropbox" I get the statement "dropbox not running". I have done as you suggested an added a random file to dropbox in Finder and it does indeed give me the spinning circle and when I check dropbox the file is there. Thanks for any help you can give me to resolve this problem as I am anxious to use 1password.

Hi @sircooper,
I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble here. Could you please try re-starting Dropbox? This could give it a bit of a kickstart and help 1Password recognize it. :)

Closed dropbox and restarted. Still will not move to dropbox when I click on "move to dropbox". I get the same statement "dropbox not running" even though it is. Is there some way to "drag" 1password into dropbox? That is how I get my other files into dropbox.

Hi @sircooper
Since we last updated 1Password 3 Dropbox must have changed either or both the path and process name meaning we aren't successfully detecting it any more. It isn't a completely lost cause though as you can manually instruct 1Password 3 to move the 1Password.agilekeychain to Dropbox.
In the General tab of 1Password 3's preferences there is the Move to Dropbox... which you're already aware of. What you might not know though is if you right click on the path above it you will get a small menu with three options. The one that will interest you is the Move Data File to Another Folder.... You can use that to manually move the .agilekeychain into Dropbox and achieve the same goal.
Let us know if you have any problems or further questions.

Thanks "littlebobbytables" you have allowed me to progress further. Now I have 1password within the confines of Dropbox on my MAC. Now my problem is that when I go to Dropbox on my iPAD it get a message "Problem loading 1Password data file". I followed the troubleshooting checklist from the "1Password for Mac knowledgebase" and it appears that the problem is that "encryptionKeys.js is not properly loading up to Dropbox though it shows to be properly loaded on my MAC. i.e. when I check the data file for "encryptionKeys.js" on my MAC it has a green check which Dropbox says means it is properly loaded. When I check Dropbox on my iPad, iTouch, and iPhone the "encryptionKeys.js" file is not checked green. Where do I go from here? I still want to make this work but am getting frustrated.

Hi @sircooper,
The first thing I'd check in circumstances like these is can you access your vault via 1PasswordAnywhere? If that works then you have confidence that everything has uploaded correctly to Dropbox and that the issue lies with your iOS devices.
Let us know the outcome of that and we'll work on getting all of your iOS devices to play ball.

By going to Dropbox.com I am able to get a "vault" and unlock it with my password but am unable to click on any of the saved logins and go to a site. Just to refresh your memory I am using 3.8.22 1password3, 10.6.8 on MAC, 6.1.6 on iPhone and iTouch, and 8.1.3 on iPad should that be of any relevance in this case. Once again thanks for your continued help.

Hi @sircooper,
The 'vault' that is available from the Dropbox website in the browser is just a read-only version. You can read a little bit more about the benefits of 1PasswordAnywhere in the link that was included in LittleBobbyTables' reply above. All we want to confirm here is that all of your data is correctly stored there.
Let's try this. On your Mac, please open 1Password and go to Help > Troubleshooting > Rebuild Data File. Does this help?

When I open 1Password and go Help>Troubleshooting I am unable to open "Rebuild Data File" as it is grayed out (along with"Sync Using IP". Clear Cache, Restart Helper, Diagnostic Report, Reset Folder Permissions are all bold, black and I could open them. When I put in my password and open my Vault, the Help menu changes and does not offer "Rebuild Data File".

Hi @sircooper,
Alright, let's try this then. I'd like you to go into Preferences and select the option to change your Master Password. Changing your Master Password should give 1Password a chance to rebuild that datafile and repair the encryption keys that are missing. You can change it to the same one that you are currently using, but going through the change process should help.

Have been away from my MAC a few days so ready to continue our quest. I did as you suggested I changed my Master Password but did not achieve success. If you could hear my tone of voice you would perceive I am getting frustrated but willing to continue. What next?

Hi @sircooper,
I've just re-read the entire thread from your first post and something now stands out from your post on the 5th (post #7). I fixated on whether your .agilekeychain had successfully been uploaded to Dropbox in the first place but upon re-reading I do have a couple of questions.
You mention what version of 1Password you are running on your Mac but you don't specify what version on your various iOS devices. If they are running a mixture of iOS 6 and 8 then it's either two versions or just one old one. Either way I'm wondering if the fact that you haven't stated and that upon re-reading post #7 that you actually said the message is when you go to Dropbox on your iPad.
Are you in fact trying to access your .agilekeychain via the Dropbox app or do you have 1Password for iOS installed?
If you're actually trying to access the .agilekeychain from the Dropbox app then it will fail. iOS, like OS X doesn't allow you to run JavaScript locally.
If you can let us know regarding that suspicion and we can take it from there.
Troubleshooting is a process and sometimes it can take a while to determine exactly what the issue is. We will work with you for as long as it takes though.

You may have hit on the problem. Being naive in the ways of 1password and the way it integrates with OSX and IOS i don't have 1password installed on my iPhone, iTouch or iPad. That being the case which version of 1password should I install on the various devices? My iPhone and iTouch run 6.1.6 and my iPad runs 8.1.3. I run 10.6.8 (snow leopard) on my iMac and therefore run 1password3 (3.8.22). Do I put the latest version of 1password that the IOS will support on each device? Presently I am on a free test run. If we get this resolved and I decide to purchase 1password, how many versions will I have to purchase. (Probably a dumb question)
thanks for your continued efforts.

Hi @sircooper,
That being the case which version of 1password should I install on the various devices? My iPhone and iTouch run 6.1.6 and my iPad runs 8.1.3.
Unfortunately, 1Password 5 for iOS requires iOS 8, so you won't be able to install it on your older iOS devices. Earlier versions of 1Password are no longer available in the App Store. The good news though is that 1Password 5 for iOS is a free download, with a few Pro Features available for a one-time in app purchase. But, if you're just starting out and getting a feel for 1Password, the free version should be all you need right now. You can snag 1Password 5 in the iOS App Store.
I run 10.6.8 (snow leopard) on my iMac and therefore run 1password3 (3.8.22).
1Password 3 for Mac will sync quite nicely with 1Password 5 for iOS via Dropbox. It sounds like you've already got 1Password on your Mac syncing with Dropbox, so when we load 1Password on your iOS device, you'll want to follow the set up instructions in our User Guide for an existing user.
If we get this resolved and I decide to purchase 1password, how many versions will I have to purchase.
You'll need a license for 1Password for Mac. You can get this from our webstore. Now, you'll need to purchase a license for 1Password 5 for Mac, as we no longer offer an option to purchase 1Password 3. However, the license details that you receive after purchase will include a license key for 1Password 3, in addition to the 1Password 5 license. This will ensure that, when you do upgrade your operating system, you'll have a shiny new version of 1Password waiting for you as well!
I hope this helps, but please do let us know if you have any further questions or concerns. :)

Since my iPhone and iTouch run 6.1.6, which version of 1password should I load onto them? I seem to be successfully using my Mac and iPad on 1password, now I would like to set up my iPhone and iTouch.
thanks,

Hi @sircooper,
Once you've downloaded 1Password 5 from the App Store on your iPad, open the App Store on your iOS 6 devices and go to Updates > Purchased. Find 1Password in your list of purchased apps and try to download it - the App Store should allow you to download the latest compatible version for iOS 6 (which was 1Password 4.3.2).
If you need more help with that, just let us know! :)

Password 5.1(Mac App Store) and Dropbox Not Synching Across iMacn (Yosemite 10.10.2) ; MacBook Pro; and iPad iOS 8.1
I have thoroughly tested each device and Password app and the agile bits keychain folder in Dropbox but still no success. Things had been working superbly until the past month or so -- didn't really pay much attention. Logins;licenses etc. have not synced across all devices. A smooth Lake Louise ski slope has now become the Athabasca glacier with crevasses. HELP -- send out the St. Bernards!0 -
Resolved. Changed Master P/W and synced but no success. I came back 2 hrs later and voila -- everything synced ! Go figure.

Hi @Stellar47,
I've got my St. Bernards all ready to go, don't worry! :)
Let's run a test and see where things are getting tripped up:
- Create a test entry on your Mac ("Test, Mac") and add some data
- Create a test entry on each of your iOS devices ("Test, iPhone/iPad") and add some data
- Does "Test for Mac" show up on either of your iOS devices?
- Does "Test for iPhone" and/or "Test for iPad" show up on your Mac?
- Log in to the Dropbox website and click on the 1Password.html file inside your 1Password.agilekeychain folder
- Enter your Master Password
- Do either or any of your test entries show up in your database here?
Please let me know the results of this little experiment - once we have a better idea of where things are going sideways, we should be able to get this straightened out simply for you :)
Hi @SolarFlare ,
Thanks so much for letting us know that everything synced up eventually! Keep an eye on things, and if you notice anything misbehaving, we're here to help!
