Download
Hi
I just downloaded the program online to my IMac and did my dropbox sync. Do I need to download the program to my IPad and IPhone too? If I do, how? Thanks.

Hi @drdancheng,
You can download 1Password for iOS from the App Store: https://j.mp/1PasFO
On your iPhone and iPad, you will be able to sync your existing data from Dropbox: https://guides.agilebits.com/1password-ios/5/en/topic/existing-user
Please let us know if you have any other questions. We're always happy to help!

I did try to sync my data from the Dropbox on my iPhone and iPad. Attached is the message I got: "A key data file could not be loaded and 1PasswordAnywhere cannot continue without it."Do you mean I have to pay another fee to download 1Password from the App store for my iPhone and iPad? I thought the licence I paid for allows me to use the program on all my devices.

Hi @drdancheng,
So there are a couple of points to address there.
- You cannot access 1PasswordAnywhere through the Dropbox app, to make use of 1PasswordAnywhere you need to access it via Dropbox's website https://www.dropbox.com - that will work. What is happening is you're not allowed to run JavaScript locally on your iOS device so we can't load the all important file that performs the decryption.
- Our licences are per platform. While we haven't achieved feature parity yet (it is the goal), each version of 1Password is a standalone application or app and considered separate unlike the other approach where the app is merely a client to a server where your information is stored. Also of note is 1Password 5 for iOS now uses the freemium model. The basic features are free and it's if you want access to certain other features that you would need to consider the in-app purchase for those 'Pro' features.
Does that help? If you have further questions do please ask :smile:

ok. I got access to 1PasswordAnywhere vis www.dropbox.com on my iPad. But I could not login any of my saved website. I kept double tapping. Nothing happened.
Pardon my ignorance. I don't quite understand what you meant by
our licences are per platform'. I assume
freemium model' is free. How do I get this on my iPad. If I download from Appstore they charge.

My question was simple. I paid and downloaded the program online on my iMac and sync with Dropbox. How do I use 1Password on my iPad and iPhone? I was told that this program works on all my apple devices.

If I download from Appstore they charge.
No they do not. 1Password for iOS is a free app, which can be had here:
If you'd like the Pro features that is a separate (in-app) purchase.

Thanks. OK. I downloaded the program and connected to Dropbox on my iPad. After I opened the vault, I could see all my saved login, but I could not open any of the website by double tapping them. What did I miss?

Hi @drdancheng,
Are you opening the 1Password app and finding your Login items in the Categories section? Or are you opening a web browser and using the 1PasswordAnywhere feature from Dropbox.com?
If you're using the 1PasswordAnywhere feature from a web browser, you won't be able to open your logins by tapping on them. Instead, open the 1Password app that you downloaded, go to Categories and select the Login item you want to use, then tap the URL within that Login item. That should open the website in the built-in browser within 1Password.
Does that help? If you're still having trouble, please let us know the exact steps you're taking, and what you see on the screen. Thanks!

Note that (because of Apple restrictions) you can use the 1PW browser on the iPad, or you can use Safari (or other browsers) but then need to set up sharing in order for 1PW and Safari to work together. Look at the 1PW for iOS user guide to find out how to do this.

Thanks @danco! :)
@drdancheng, danco is referring to the 1Password extension you can enable on iOS 8 devices, which allows you to fill your login info in web sites in Safari. We have more information in our Extension FAQ.

Hi Drew, OK. I was using the 1Password app on my iPad and iPhone. But was tapping on the name on my login list, like what I did with extension on my iMac. Nothing happened. I did what you suggestion tapping the URL instead, it worked on most websites but all my banking website did not work (though they all worked on my iMac) Did I miss something?
Hi Denco: I did try setting up the extension on my iPhone. When I hit
share' and swipe to the left, I couldn't find the
more' icon. However I was successfully setting the extension on my iPad but when I called up iPassword from among the shared icons, the iPassword dialogue box is totally empty. It just says `log in using' the webpage opened on my safari. I must be doing wrong. ?0 -
Hi @drdancheng,
Extensions are new to iOS 8. Can you confirm please that your iPhone is indeed running iOS 8 and not iOS 7. That could certainly be one cause of not having a More button. I no longer have an iOS 7 device to confirm this though.
As for the 1Password extension in iOS. As I said just there, extensions in their entirety are new to iOS 8 so our iOS extension is equally new. At the moment it will offer to fill in on the active page in Safari. So unlike 1Password for Mac where you can view your entire vault or filter if needed, with iOS the page has to be active. Now we will enhance the extension as we move forward but there are limitations. iOS is heavily locked down and we can't simply move the desktop extension over to iOS due to these restrictions. Apple are being very careful to ensure that each new feature they add doesn't impact too heavily on the users' experience so it is understandable that they are cautious.
You have a couple of routes available to you if the goal is to move from the Login item to the web page.
- With the Login item in view in 1Password for iOS, if you touch the URL briefly it will take you to our built-in browser 1Browser. This is what we did before extensions in iOS 8.
- With the Login item in view in 1Password for iOS, if you select and hold on the URL it will bring up 3 options, one of which is Open in Safari. You will be automatically switched to Safari and the URL loaded. If the URL is the login screen then you can follow the steps in Use the extension in Safari on our Extension (iOS) page. The extension will then submit the login credentials.
Does that help in understanding how our iOS extension differs from the Mac/Windows one?
As always, if you have any questions relating to any of that please do ask :smile:

Hi
I am still having some issues with my new program:
Some of the website is impossible to save the login. Mostly with bank website. One example is BMO: https://www1.bmo.com/onlinebanking/cgi-bin/netbnx/NBmain?product=5 ;
I saved a few of accounts with one bank website (saving & checking). It works well with my iMac and iPad. But with my iPhone, the same account pops up disregard which account I tap on. Any solution for that?

Hello
I have another download problem: My wife and I share the same iMac with a different account. I downloaded the program on my account, created a Dropbox vault, and sync with 1Password. It is working well. But after I did the same with my wife's account on the same iMac (also sync with the same vault which we share), we had a problem. Please see attached. Sounds like I should have one 1Password program in one iMac. What should I do?0 -
@drdancheng I am answering only your most recent post and will leave the preceding one for others more expert than I,
On the iMac do this:
- delete the copy of 1P from your Downloads folder (don't use any app cleaner tool, which will try to delete files you need to keep);
- empty the trash;
- reboot the iMac.
That should resolve your problem (which is an issue with Yosemite that some have reported resolved using OS X 10.10.2 I believe).

Thanks, Stephen. It works and I am not getting the error message any more. But the login function is still not working. I do have the saved login list and it shows the sync with the Dropbox vault is successful. But when I tapped on the individual login, only the sign-in page showed up and nothing happened. No fill-in. What could be the problem? Appreciate your help.

Hi @drdancheng,
We may need to consolidate some of your posts, I've just responded to question to from post #14 here in another thread of yours. I'll let you respond there.
Now as for question 1 in post #14.
Banks are often the most difficult sites to work with for two reasons. Getting past the first page often requires a valid account with that bank, something that isn't easy to do given the number of banks worldwide. The second reason is bank web sites are often the most hostile sites we come across, actively doing their best to stop password managers from assisting the users. I'm sure there are security reasons why they make the decisions they do but sometimes I'm unclear as to what they are.
Now with the site you supplied the URL to I could follow our Saving a Login Manually guide and obtain a Login item that would fill in the field. I didn't try submitting as I don't have a real account. What happens if you follow that guide? If you can't create an item can you describe precisely what steps you can follow and where in the guide it breaks down please. Once we have a better idea we can maybe come up with some suggestions.
