I currently have the OSX 10.9.5 and i don't think to upgrade to 10.10 very soon (cause of a lot of issues i've red about). So i've two questions:
1) which way may i get the right version for my OSX that allow me the iCloiud sync? The MAS allow me to download only the current version valid starting from 10.10.
2) in the future, when i'll decide to upgrade to OSX 10.10, will i have to pay the upgrade?
Tnks for support

    Hi @albesse,

This is a really good question! The answer is a bit complicated but I'll do my best to explain it:

First, if you're using Mac OS 10.9.5, you'll need 1Password 4 (as you probably already know, 1Password 5 requires Mac OS 10.10). It is technically still possible for iCloud sync to work in 1Password 4 for Mac, but only if you have never enabled iCloud Drive in your iCloud account from any Mac or iOS device (that's a new feature in Mac OS 10.10 and iOS 8). If you ever enabled iCloud Drive, iCloud sync will no longer work in 1Password 4, even if you disable that option again.

The next step would be to install 1Password 4 on your Mac. There are two options here:

    • Mac App Store - Unfortunately it's not possible to make a new purchase of 1Password 4 from the Mac App Store. However, there's a workaround: If you have access to a Mac running OS 10.10, you can sign into the Mac App Store on that Mac and purchase 1Password 5. Once you do that, it will allow you to install 1Password 4 from the Mac App Store on OS 10.9 (just make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you use to purchase 1Password 5).

    • Agile Web Store - Our web store version of 1Password 4 for Mac also had the iCloud sync option. If you purchase a license for 1Password 5 for Mac from our web store, you'll receive a license file that also works with 1Password 4, which you can download from the "Legacy" section at the bottom of our download site. The only problem is that if/when you upgrade your Mac to OS 10.10 and 1Password 5, you'll lose the iCloud sync option. (We have more information about that in our Web store and iCloud FAQ.)

If you use 1Password on any iOS devices, keep in mind that you would also need to be using 1Password 4 on those iOS devices in order for iCloud sync to work with 1Password 4 on your Mac. In other words, the iCloud sync option in version 4 is not compatible with iCloud sync in version 5 (and vice versa).

So as you can see, it's possible to get 1Password 4 for Mac and use iCloud sync, but it may or may not be worth the trouble. Have you considered using Dropbox sync? That will work in both the Mac App Store and web store versions of 1Password for Mac, and also works between versions 4 and 5 on both Mac and iOS.

This can be a bit confusing, so if you have more questions about that, please let us know! :)

Thank you very much for your reply. I think that dropbox sync is the easier solution but is the sync completely automatic as with iCloud or i have to perform it manually?

    Hi @albesse,

I agree - Dropbox is definitely the easier solution in this case! ;) And you'll be happy to know it works automatically, just like iCloud sync. To set up Dropbox sync in 1Password 4 for Mac, you can follow the steps here.

Please let us know if you need any help to get that set up. Thanks!
