New user question

Just bought 1P for Mac through MAS. Starting load data and want to make sure I'm clear on something. The credit card feature gives you the ability to fill web pages with that info to make online purchases, but if I want to check my credit card account online I need to fill out the login item where the password resides. This means putting the same card in different items, for the different uses???
The same would hold true for Bank accounts, one item for logins and one for more detail?
Thanks

    Hi @safety1,

Thanks for taking the time to write in - great question!

It's true, the way Categories are set up right now, you might have multiple entries in 1Password for the same 'thing'. Bank accounts are a great example:

    • A Login item will store the username and password that you use to log in to your bank's website.
    • A Credit Card item can store the details of your debit and credit cards so that you can fill them in simply when doing online shopping.
    • A Bank Account item can store details such as account number and branch address.

You're not necessarily storing the same information in each of these items. For example, I don't include my debit and credit card details in my Bank Account item, because I know they're stored elsewhere. The 'Bank Account' item itself is largely for personal organization. It's the Login and Credit Card items that you'll probably want to populate first, as they do have the ability to fill in on websites. (Identities is the third category that can do this magical filling.) All other categories are merely available to help you store and organize different type of information that you might want to keep secure and easily available.

I hope this helps to explain things, if you have any further questions or concerns, we're happy to help!

    Hi @safety1,

Are you logging into the bank's native app, or into the bank's website on your mobile browser? Both of these have different solutions:

    • Logging into your bank's native app: currently, you'll need to copy and paste your password data from 1Password to fill in most bank's apps. In order to use the awesome new 1Password app extension in an app, that app has to enable 1Password support. It's really simple to do, so if your bank has not done this, we'd love it if you send them an email and let them know that you're interested in this feature.
    • Filling your details in a mobile browser: To learn how to use 1Password's new app extension in Safari, see our User Guide,

If this doesn't quite get things sorted out for you, please let me know a little bit more about how you are trying to log in to your bank, and we'll start from there!

Sorry I'm a little lacking in the technical lingo.
"Filling your details in a mobile browser: To learn how to use 1Password's new app extension in Safari, see our User Guide,"
I have the exrension and this works.

If I understand this, Bank of america has one of these awesome apps. However I'm not sure I'm using it in iOS. I loaded my BOA information on my Mac by going to the URL logging into my account and then saving the password in 1P on my desktop. it then synced to my iOS, where within 1P I cannot log on.
    hope that made sense.

Same issue for other sites which have an app for on the iOS. I must be something wrong

    Hi @safety1,

I'm sorry if my lingo is a bit too technical for you! I'll try to keep things simple.

Bank of America does have an iOS app. As far as I know, however, they have not added support for the 1Password extension. We really hope that one day they decide to, but for now, to log in to the Bank of America app on your iOS device here's what you'll do:

    • Open 1Password and find your Bank of America Login
    • Tap to copy your details from 1Password
    • Switch to the Bank of America app and paste your details in the appropriate field

For my bank, I allow the app to remember my card number, and then copy and paste my password from 1Password. This saves me from having to switch back and forth to copy/paste both the card number and the password, but how you choose to do this is up to you.

If you would prefer to access the Bank of America mobile site in a browser, you can use either Safari (and take advantage of the 1Password app extension there) or use 1Password's built-in browser. To use the built-in browser ( 1Browser ), just open your Bank of America Login item in 1Password and tap on the URL. This will switch to 1Browser and open the URL for you.

Please let me know if this explanation helps!
