Contacts.app Continually Rejects Password

Since starting to use 1Password, Contacts.app continually rejects the password generated by 1P. I copy the google password in 1P, paste it into the sheet that appears in Contacts.app, hit 'OK' and the sheet just reappears with the message: "Contacts can't connect to the Google account 'Gmail'. Enter the password for [my email address]". ... what's happening?

    Hi @ignatzzzz,

Am I understanding correctly, you're trying to add a Google account to Contacts but when you copy and paste the password it fails, is that correct?

Just to make sure it's nothing silly at all, have you confirmed that the Login item works to log into Google via a web browser? It might be worth asking as well, are you trying to do this from a different country or are you using a VPN at all? I discovered when I was testing a VPN service where you can select the country you appear from that Thunderbird flipped out completely in regards the gmail accounts I had added there. Every one of them refused to connect until I logged into the Google account to authenticate that it was me. Each time I changed location it repeated. I did a lot of cursing, I mean a lot as Thunderbird just kept saying password wrong.

Could either of these be possible reasons?

Sorry for the late reply... been on holiday. I can sign in to Google anywhere else with the 1PW-generated password. However, since starting using 1PW, Contacts.app continually posts the message above.

  • Hi @ignatzzzz,

Do you use two step verification with your Google account?
