Multiple errors logging in lately
Everything has been working great until lately. I was getting "cookie" errors on my bank site, and when I log in again it worked. That went away, but then it started saying my user id/pass is wrong. Again, a second login worked. Now it says "Error 500: java.lang.NullPointerException" or that my user id/pass is wrong and I CANT get in. I can log in manually and I've confirmed my credentials are correct in 1password.

It would be helpful to know:
- what version of 1P you are using on your Mac (go to 1P > About 1Password and tell us exactly what it says there);
- what browser you are using and the version number of the 1P extension in the browser;
- how exactly you are trying to log in to the site when it fails (e.g., using the ⌘\ shortcut, or some other way);
- if it's not confidential, the URL that's giving the problem.
Can you log in by copying and pasting your username and password from 1P, or doesn't that work either?

Hi @tsaintthomas,
The answers to Stephen_C's will go some way to better understanding your setup.
Other than that it might be worth seeing if creating a new Login item using our Saving a Login Manually guide helps.
Lastly, the error message "Error 500: java.lang.NullPointerException" isn't directly us. All 1Password does is fill in fields on the page and then simulate the press of the enter key to initiate logging in. That isn't to say that somehow something 1Password is doing isn't leading to this error but that error is specifically from the web page (so your bank). A null pointer exception usually means a variable, a way of recording a piece of data should exist but it doesn't because the page hasn't created it for whatever reason.
You don't mention what browser you're using but it might be worth clearing the cache.
Please keep us informed.

- v5.1 510027 from App Store
- v4.2.5 on Safari
- I use the Safari extension to get in, which is the only way I am familiar with.

I can copy paste from 1password and I can log in. It seems to be the submission process?
I looked for updates so I believe both are current, please correct me if I am wrong. I tried using 1password on mac directly and it does not log in (I've never used it that way. I realize the errors aren't directly related to 1password but it works without it, but it worked before, so I am puzzled.

Also, I noticed just now, if I manage to intercept the "submit" button before it does it automatically, it logs in normally.

Hi @tsaintthomas,
Thanks for the information! If it works when you copy & paste your login credentials from 1Password, but not when you have the extension fill them for you, please try manually saving a new Login for that site (as littlebobbytables had suggested). Does the new Login item work correctly?
Let us know how it goes, thanks! :)

Tried saving a new login, tried another link for the site and it still does not work. I just turned off the auto submit for now, I guess that will work for me.

Hi @tsaintthomas,
After the fill our auto-submit feature works by mimicking the press of the enter key on the login page. We don't deal with the actual buttons because that's a minefield with a whole load of mess waiting to happen if we did. Given that filling with manually submitting works, can you reproduce the issue if you click in one of the fields that we filled in and press the enter key yourself? I am curious but given the site I wouldn't be able to test all that easily myself.
At least you've found a workaround though, that's a positive.
