Impossibly stupid questions # 12 & 35

I am embarrassed. I have two MBAirs (11 & 13) and 2 iPad Airs (orig and 2) and two iPhones. Here is my problem: I cannot figure out how to CORRECTLY sync all or several of the above. I have sloppily different copies of 1PW on several of the above, and all are linked to Dropbox, and I fear if I manage to get them all connected to Dropbox and tell them to sync then I'll end up with the WRONG 1PW file syncing.

Only 1 of the 1PW files is correct, the one on the 13" MBAir. All the others are fouled up. How do I go about setting all the other computers, iPads, iPhones to the one correct 1PW file? And by the way, What would be the easiest way to DISCOVER the correct file? Perhaps just save it from the machine that I know has the correct file?

Please advise.

PS Will this forum automatically send me an email when/if there is a reply to this note? Thanks.

    Hi @fbarthelme,

The following assumes you're running 1Password 4/5 on all of your machines and devices. If you still have 1Password 3 please do let us know as that change matters (so stop reading and don't do any of what is below).

If you're saying you have a variety of different vaults but that the vault on your 13-inch MacBook Air is a good one that you want to see used elsewhere I suggest we wipe all the other devices, clear Dropbox and use that vault to kickstart everything again.

For your 11-inch MacBook Air you want to follow this guide https://support.1password.com/starting-over/mac.html

and for your iOS devices you want to follow this guide https://support.1password.com/starting-over/ios.html

After that I would recommend going into Dropbox and removing every instance of .agilkeychain you find. Don't worry about removing the one that the 13-inch MacBook Air created, 1Password 4/5 will allow you to recreate the sync data as required so it's not an issue.

With everything cleared you now want to set up Dropbox syncing from your 13-inch MacBook Air. This will allow you to create the definitive 1Password.agilekeychain which all the other machines and devices will use. You know what you're doing here but just for the sake of completeness here is a link to our Sync with Dropbox guide.

Now you will want to get 1Password working everywhere else.

On your 11-inch MacBook Air it should simply ask for your Master Password when it automatically finds your sync data in Dropbox but if not we do have a guide for this too, Getting started again on a new computer. For your iOS devices our Existing 1Password user guide is what you want.

At this point all the machines and devices should be syncing to a single 1Password.agilekeychain and all should have the same good vault that was on your 13-inch MacBook Air. Do let us know how you get along and if you have any troubles or queries please do post!

    Re your PS.

You have to set this up. Click on your name at the top. Then click on Edit Profile. Then go to Notification Preferences, and you can adjust various settings.

I do hope we can alter the defaults one day to something a little more sensible.
