Attempting to 'Add license', getting 'Trial expired' message even though I purchased 1Password
- I’m using 1Password version #: 5.1
- On a (Mac/PC/iOS/Android): Macbook pro
- Syncing with: what does syncing with mean?
I'm attempting to 'add my license' after having it emailed to me and downloading 1Password. I click on 'license', then 'add license', a window opens with downloads but with the contents greyed-out so I can not click on anything further to add my license. I purchase 1Password years ago, have been using it. Months ago a 'Trial expired' in red font appeared at top of 1Password interface. When I attempt to edit items in 1Password the 'trial expired' message appears, preventing me from editing. Can you tell me how I can add my license? Do I need to delete an older version of 1Password? Why are updates of 1Password leading to my getting this 'Trial expired' when in fact I purchased this app years ago?
When I open 1Password now, it has 'Trial Expired' at the top right. When I attempt to 'add license' it brings me to a finder window, in the download section, but with the items greyed-out, so there is no way I can enter the license. Any suggestions on how to clear up my use of 1Password once and for all?

You purchased 1PW "years ago", so that must have been 1PW3. 1PW4 was a paid upgrade from 1PW3, and 1PW5 is a free upgrade from 1PW4 (but 1PW5 is only available on Yosemite). A bug in 1PW4 meant that some users were able to continue using 1PW4 after the end of the trial period without getting a "trial expired" message. This was squashed in 1PW5, which is why you are now getting the message.
So is your license for 1PW 4/5 (same license) or 1PW3? I suspect you have the 1PW3 license, which is a text key, whereas the license for 4/5 is a file. Of course, if you have paid for the upgrade, then there is something more to do.
Ultimately you should delete the older version, but don't do that until you have 1PW5 working fully. Yes, you can't edit passwords or add new ones if your trial is expired.
This thread really belongs in 1PW for Mac, not in the Knowledgebase Feedback forum. It will probably get moved there later by a moderator.

Hi @Josephlib ,
I'm sorry that you're having trouble here. I hope that @danco's post has helped - he's given you some pretty great advice. I took a quick look in our back office records and I was able to find a license for 1Password 3 under the email address that you have attached to your forum account. If you haven't yet purchased the upgrade to 1Password 4, now is a great time to do so, as 1Password is currently on sale! Just enter your current license details on our upgrade page to see your available discount. It's a limited time offer though, so you'll want to act soon!
If you're certain that you have paid to upgrade to 1Password 4 already, please send a message in to support+licenses@agilebits.com with alternate names and email addresses that you may have used to make the purchase, and we'll track your license down for you. :)

Hello - a new 'trial expired' message has popped up on my 1password for Mac even though I purchased it. How do I go about verifying the purchase? Thank you

See all the posts on this subject. And it would probably be easier if you had created your own thread.
Roughly, the "trial expired" notice comes up in the following situations.
Someone had purchased 1PW3 and not understood that there is an upgrade fee for 1PW4/5.
A purchase of 1PW4/5 from Agile provides a license file, which should have been sent in an email. An issue with gmail means that some people do not receive the file, but the email still contains instructions for another way of getting hold of the file. Once the file is obtained, double-clicking it (possibly after moving it from the email to the desktop) should get it accepted.
Someone has more than one copy of 1PW, perhaps even on an external drive.
Do any of these apply to you? If so, you should now be able to solve the problem yourself. If not, post again.
