purchased from Agilebits or from the Mac app store ?

Go to the 1Password 5 menu and select the About 1Password option at the top of the menu. A screen will appear giving the version number and the store from which it was purchased.

I have both, 1Password 5 and (just) 1Password in my application folder.
Obviously, I should be using the latest version but how do I know which one my system - MacBook Pro - is using ?
More importantly, how do I remove the old version ?
Also note, I also have version 5.2.1 installed on my iPhone 6 Plus.
Can someone help please ?

@hawkmoth thank you for your prompt reply and your help.
I did what you suggested and found it was the Mac App Store.
May I ask what the difference is between the two methods of purchase and does one or the other limit/change my ability to use the app ?
Thanks in advance,

@lillyco - the version from the Mac App Store will allow you to sync your data among devices using iCloud. The version sold on the Agileabits web store cannot use iCloud for that purpose, because Apple has closed the required protocols to applications that aren't sold from on of Apple's own stores. That is the only functional difference. You'll be fine with what you have.
There are pricing differences when it comes time to buy a paid upgrade, with AgileBits being able to offer discounted upgrade pricing for their own web store, which Apple (so far) does not.

@hawkmoth thank you so much for this information - all of which has been very helpful !! Also, good to know of the potential pricing issues.
On another note, maybe you can help with something else I posted about and have not received any comments. If you don't mind, I'll cut and past that question in my following message, to see if you might have a solution. Thanks again, Kenneth

The Mac App Store version is named 1Password.app. The AgileBits version is named 1Password 5.app. So, let me ask, before you bought your license, did you use the trail version from the AgileBits store? Since you established that you are actually using the Mac App Store version, it sounds like this is the most likely explanation.
Also, before we go any farther, is your data showing correctly in the version you are using?

Oh geeezzz, I'm really confused now.
Not cufused about what I have now, but confused about what I to do. No wonder it's never worked correctly which is what I've asked AgileBits about and they've never given me a satisfactory answer. However, you have confirmed that I have both.
In answer to your first question, yes I believe I used the trail version initially. As to your second question, "Is all of my data showing correctly?" I guess I'm not able to legitimately answer that as it seems I've been using them both without knowing/realizing they were different.
1Password.app has 113 items.
1Password 5.app has 139 items.I've attached screenshots of both.

I'm going to defer to an AgileBits helper here. I don't want to mislead you. I know there is a good way to sort things out, but I don't want to risk having you lose track of anything that you need.

@lillyCo - I'm going to suggest that you send email to support+forums @ agilebits.com. Include a link to this thread in your message. You'll get an automated reply that includes a support ticket number. Post that number back here to help staff connect your issue with this thread. That should speed up the assistance.

Hi @lillyCo,
I noticed you started a separate discussion for this, so I merged it with this one to avoid confusion between here and there.
It looks like you have both the web store version and Mac App Store version of 1Password 5 for Mac, and each one has some different data. I'm assuming you want to stick with the Mac App Store version, and migrate the additional data that is currently in the web store version? If so, that should be fairly easy to do. Before doing anything else, let's make current backups of your data in both apps as a precaution:
- Open the Mac App Store version (1Password.app)
- Go to File > Backup (this will open Preferences > Backup, and should show a new backup was created)
- Quit the Mac App Store version
- Repeat these steps in the web store version (1Password 5.app)
Once you've done that, you can merge the data from both versions together so you'll have all the latest/up-to-date information in one place. The easiest way to do that is probably by using Folder sync, which you'll need to set up in the web store version:
- Open the web store version (1Password 5.app)
- Go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then choose the Sync tab
- Choose Folder from the “Sync vault with” pop-up menu (if switching from another sync option, click Disable Sync, but do not choose to delete the data)
- Click the Choose button, then select a location on your Mac (the Desktop is fine)
- Click Create New (this will create a new 1Password.agilekeychain file in the location you chose)
- Quit the web store version
Next, merge that keychain file with your vault in the Mac App Store version:
- Open the Mac App Store version (1Password.app)
- Go to the menu for 1Password > Preferences, then choose the Sync tab
- Choose Folder from the “Sync vault with” pop-up menu (if switching from another sync option, click Disable Sync, but do not choose to delete the data)
- Click the Choose button, then select the new 1Password.agilekeychain file you created in the above steps
- Click Merge with Existing
At this point, all your latest information should be in the Mac App Store version. Now you can switch back to the sync option you were previously using in the Mac App Store version.
Finally, you can get rid of the web store version of 1Password:
- Quit the Mac App Store version if it's currently open
- Open the web store version (1Password 5.app)
- While holding the Control key on your keyboard, go to the 1Password 5 menu and select Quit 1Password and 1Password mini
- Drag 1Password 5.app from the Applications folder to the Trash (do not use any app cleaning utilities when doing this)
- Empty the Trash
If all goes well, you should be all set now. Please let us know if you have questions or run into any trouble with those steps. Thanks!
