Cloud Sync

Ok so I have 1Password5 on my MacBook and Apple desktop, iCloud shows the mac mini app on my MacBook however there is no link to cloud in the sync drop down in 1p5 preferences, my desktop does not shoe 1p5 in cloud drive nor is it in the preferences, this may be due to me not downloading using app store. Of course you can't download using app store without paying in advance, I paid direct to agile. So, why is there no link to cloud on my MacBook and how do I get it to work on my desktop?

The AgileBits store version of 1P has not supported iCloud sync since the release of OS X Yosemite because of changes made by Apple: see Web store and iCloud FAQ.

If you bought 1P5 from AgileBits within the past 30 days you can ask for a refund to enable you to buy the Mac App Store version. If that is the case please let us know and someone will tell you how to apply for the refund.

Of course, you still have both Dropbox and wifi available to you as sync options. I use wifi sync and it works very well.

@firefly55: Stephen_C is correct. Only the Mac App Store version of 1Password supports iCloud Sync, since Apple does not allow non-MAS apps to do so. Additionally, iCloud Drive/CloudKit itself requires OS X Yosemite or iOS 8.

However, you can use Dropbox Sync between all current versions of 1Password (and many older ones), regardless of platform.

Just to clarify, Wi-Fi Sync is meant to work between a single computer and one or more iOS devices (all using 1Password 4 or 5). I hope this helps! :)

Originally purchased 1password3 to find out it was no longer used with Yosemite so I upgraded to 1p5. Having done more study I figured out where the problem is. I purchased 2 licences for 1password5 direct from AgileBits for my laptop and desktop and a licence for my mobile devices through the app store only to figure out that I can't sync them all over the cloud because I failed to purchase the laptop and desktop versions from the app store figuring supporting the developers by purchasing directly was the best thing to do. Of course I am outside the 30 day refund window. This is becoming a money pit, surely you can put a "trial" version on the app store that those of us that purchased direct from your site can use to get iCloud to work..........

That's the thing, users are not usually aware of Apple's restrictions. Trial versions are not allowed on the App Store. If they were, I am sure Agile (and other developers) would be pleased.

I hope you did not buy two separate licenses for the laptop and the desktop. Your message could be read that way,but maybe you did not mean that. Just to clarify, only one license is required for all your Macs (iOS being different). If by any chance you did pay twice, I expect Agile would make a refund.

Do you have an objection to Dropbox sync? Some people insist on using iCloud, but Dropbox even has some advantages.

I have started using drop box, I just figured as I use cloud for contacts etc I would use it for this as well. You are right about the licence issue, bought password3 then had to pay for password4 upgrade.

    Hi @firefly55,

Hopefully Dropbox is working out for you  As an alternative over iCloud it can have certain advantages (depending on your situation). Dropbox is cross platform meaning those that wish to sync Windows or Android devices with a Mac or iOS device can and it's pretty version agnostic too. Dropbox will run on multiple versions of OS X and works with 1Password 3 for Mac all the way up to 1Password 5.

danco is sadly correct. Apple don't allow trial versions of software. They allow the ability to offer a cut down version and to unlock features with additional purchases (sometimes referred to as the freemium model) but that doesn't quite match up with what we offer on our site at the moment, a 30 day trial of the full software - no restrictions. There is also no way currently to migrate an AWS user like yourself to the MAS version and Apple also don't have a way to offer a selective discount e.g. upgrade prices meaning even if you had been eligible for a refund you may want to have considered what to do. As we have total control over our own store we can do so when you purchase directly from us.

Let us know if you have any issues with Dropbox and we can work with you to resolve them. Otherwise happy syncing!
