1password mini displays passwords [resolved with Mac restart]
I'm helping a friend install 1Password because I kept telling him it's the best app for securing passwords. He called me today to tell me that the extension on all his browsers displays the password if you select login...there are no dots or #....just the entire password that is on full display as long as 1Password is open and running. Is this a unique bug (can't seem to find any documentation on boards)

Ask your friend to check his settings under 1P > Preferences > Security and ensure that, under, Display, your friend has checked Conceal passwords.

Hi @Fowlerf,
Please do let us know if Stephen_C's post helped at all :smile:

Thank you Stephen_C, but that doesn't solve the problem. The preferences are available for the main app, but doesn't, apparently, work with the browser extension. The passwords are concealed in the main app, but the mini browser doesn't and there is no setting (that I can find) on the extension that I can set to conceal the password.

The passwords are concealed in the main app, but the mini browser doesn't
Then there is something wrong! If I conceal passwords in the main app they are most definitely not revealed in 1P mini. (To be quite clear, I always use 1P mini (invoked by ⌥⌘\) rather than the browser extension inside Firefox (which is the browser I use)—but there should be no difference because both are the same front end for the 1P data.
To make it quite clear, the preference for concealing passwords applies across the board—so we have to try to understand why it's not working in your friend's case. In order to help us do that please tell us:
- what browser your friend is using;
- the version number of the 1P extension in the browser;
- exactly how your friend is invoking 1P mini.
To be quite clear, I understand your friend's passwords are concealed in the main app (but can be revealed, of course, by pressing ⌥) but display for all logins that show through 1P mini. Is that correct?

Hi @Stephen_C
That's how it works on my browsers. However, it is the weirdest thing on his. I deleted and reinstalled the app and the extensions. I tried it with Chrome, Safari, and Firefox. All extensions reveal his passwords, while the main app conceals it (till he chooses to reveal it). I downloaded, and installed, the latest version of the extensions. He uses the extensions directly from the respective browsers. I cannot reproduce this on my any of my computers. I'm heading over to his office tomorrow to see what else can be done.Thanks.

Hi @Fowlerf,
Is it possible that he has more than one copy of 1Password installed on his computer? That has been known to cause discrepancies with the Mini. There should only be one copy of 1Password installed on the computer. If you find others (often extra copies like to hide in the Downloads folder), it's safe to just drag the extra app(s) into the trash and empty the trash.
If you take another look and still can't find a fix, I'd recommend you to create a Diagnostics Report from your friend's Mac. Here's how:
https://guides.agilebits.com/kb/1password4/en/topic/diagnostics-report#mac4Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forums@agilebits.com
Please do not post the Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.
You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here so we can quickly track down the Report and ensure that it is dealt with quickly.
Once we see the report, we might be able to better identify the source of this issue.
Thanks for recommending 1Password to your friend, by the way! And extra thanks for helping your friend troubleshoot this odd behavior. Hopefully we can get to the bottom of it soon. :)

So...I sent the diagnostic report...and Eva got back to me with saying the mac hadn't been shutdown in over two weeks. She asked to shut it down and restart to clear out the "sludge." Did. And done! That worked it out all out. Thank you kindly, Agilebits support! Nicely done.
