Installing 1PW on a second drive

Hi,

I installed a second (SSD) hard drive, again with Yosemite 10.10.3 and would like to use 1PW on it. I now have the Mac App Store license / version, installed on the old hard drive and so I figured I had to install it again, once booted from the second hard drive.

However, when I go to the App Store application > 1Password, I can't click on INSTALL, only on OPEN. Of course App Store knows via my Apple account what apps I have installed (on my other drive), but I didn't expect (or want) the first installation/HDD to act as a host for applications for the SSD. Also: If that is the approach (using the software from the old disk) then why not use Safari (and the 1PW plugin) from the old disk as well? I don't want to use the old disk, since the new one is much faster. Also, I don't want it to be depended on the old one.

Either way, 1PW won't start up, saying: > 1Password could not connect to 1Password mini. Restart 1Password. If this doesn't help, contact AgileBits support.

Safari says, when I try to use 1PW: > Looking for the 1Password app. The 1Password app must be installed for the extension to work properly.

    Hi @laptopleon ,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with 1Password right now. It sounds to me like you still have 1Password installed on this old disk? Yosemite can be particular about having multiple copies of 1Password installed on the same system, perhaps if you uninstall 1Password from the old disk you'll have better luck installing on your new drive.

I don't want to use the old disk, since the new one is much faster. Also, I don't want it to be depended on the old one.

Could you just un-mount the old disk altogether then? It seems like this would remove the problem. :)

Yes, meanwhile this is exactly what I did. I assumed there was a more official route to do this, but I but got impatient and it worked. Thanks.

Glad that worked for you, @laptopleon.

The third step in troubleshooting “1Password failed to connect to 1Password mini” that you did is currently considered the official route:

How to remove multiple, conflicting copies of 1Password from your system

Please let us know if we can help you with anything else, even though this time you figured it out on your own. :)
