Safari migrates extensions after closing and reopening

Each time Safari is closed and reopened, it migrates my extensions. Is this normal? A message appears to that effect and gives me the option of opening Preferences so that I may check the 1Password box

Please tell us the version of 1P you're running (go to 1P > About 1Password and tell us exactly what it says there) and the version number of the 1P extension in Safari (go to Safari > Preferences > Extensions).

A message appears to that effect and gives me the option of opening Preferences so that I may check the 1Password box

What is the exact wording of the error message? A screen shot would be really helpful but otherwise you can just type it and post it here.

    Hi @ken345,

I'm sorry you're having trouble with the 1Password extension in Safari! I'm not familiar with the message you described, so as Stephen mentioned, it will be helpful if you can let us know exactly what that says, or perhaps post a screenshot of it. To include it in your reply, simply click the document button in the top of the comment field, and select the file you wish to share:

Please also let us know the other details Stephen asked about (version of 1Password app and extension) and we'll continue from there. Thanks in advance!

    Here are 2 screen shots.
I don't understand several things: 1) why my preference file version of 1Password is 4.3 while my App on my iMac says 5.3 and 2) while this does not occur on my MacBook Pro Retina?

    Hi @ken345,

I've got this vague memory that a while back Apple did something quite specific and yes, it involved migrating your extensions. If memory serves me correctly it also disabled all extensions by default as part of this migration. If you're seeing this message repeatedly it would suggest something is a bit wonky with Safari's extension database.

Here is what I would suggest trying.

    Wiping Safari's extensions

To start make sure Safari is not opened.

    Preference plist

Open a Finder window and use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G to open a Go to the folder window. Use the following location

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.Extensions.plist and click the Go button.

Drag the highlighted file to your Trash.

    Extension files

Like above, open a Finder window and use the keyboard shortcut ⇧⌘G to open a Go to the folder window. Use the following location

~/Library/Safari/Extensions/ and click the Go button.

Drag the highlighted folder to your Trash.

    Safari Extensions List

Launch Keychain Access which you can find in /Applications/Utilities/. Search on the word safari and you should have 3 entries in the results. You want to right click on Safari Extensions List and select the Delete "Safari Extensions List" option.

After those two, reboot your Mac and you'll need to go through the steps of installing your extensions again. With a little luck whatever got messed up was in there and the 1Password extension will now properly load

Let us know how you get along.

Thank you for being so prompt. This ought to do the trick but I will know for sure when I get back to my iMac on Monday. BTW, just before I left my desk this afternoon, I downloaded Firefox to see if and how it works with 1P. It does so very well, which to me indicates that Safari needs some cleaning up.

We look forward to hearing how it all goes.

Sometimes stuff in a user profile can just break and leave the user with some odd behaviours to deduce what the actual cause is. Thankfully it isn't too often but yes, we've seen both Safari and Firefox profiles get corrupted and cause all sorts of issues for the user.

Hopefully you'll be reporting good news on the Monday
