I can't find a BU for 1P that's newer than 7/4/15.
Because I'm running out of HD on my MBPro, I've been trying to do what I can to help. I bought an SD card drive + moved lots of data there near the end of 12/15.
1P was working perfectly until tonight, when I was trying to get rid of duplicate files. After re-starting + attempting to open 1P, my data was gone.
I've checked for any .pif files on all drives + BU drives, including Time Machine. But I'm only able to find 1 folder: 1Password 2015-07-04, 01_01 PM (2274 items and 43 folders).1pif. Along w/ that folder is a data.1pif file also from 7/4/15 + 2 other .pif files from 2013.
When I imported using the folder, there was a LOT missing. All items says I have 1525 + I had 2274 in July. So this is not what I need to restore my data.
When we get fixed, I need to be able to figure out how to synch w/ your iOS 9 1P on my new iPhone6s.
I REALLY hope that I can get my data back + thank you in advance for your help.

That's not what you need to search for, so there is yet hope! :)
Take a look at this knowledge base article:
Where does 1Password store its data?
You appear to be using the version of 1P from the AgileBits store so make sure you look only at the parts of the article relevant to that version (as opposed to the Mac App Store version).
If you still have a problem after checking that article do by all means post here again.

Greetings @pamala,
As you're running 1Password 5.4.2 that informs us that you're running the AgileBits Store version of 1Password. This means the support folder you're looking for is
~/Library/Application Support/1Password 4/
. I would start with your Time Machine backups given how often they run, it will mean you will have hopefully lost next to nothing. The best way to invoke Time Machine is to have a Finder window open in the location that you're interested in. Here is what I would recommend.
- Quit both 1Password and 1Password mini by first launching 1Password and using the keyboard shortcut
⌃⌘Q
. - Open a Finder window.
- Use the keyboard shortcut
⇧⌘G
to open a Go to Folder... window. - Paste in the following path,
~/Library/Application Support/
and click the Go button. - Open Time Machine and find the newest backup which still has that folder and restore it.
I'm assuming the entire folder was deleted and not just part of it when I wrote these steps. I wish you good luck and hope you recover your data.

Thank you Stephen + littlebobbytables,
The link didn't work as it should have, but I eventually got my data back. Because of the massive time I've spent, I'd like to buy the App Store v of 1P. I see no onsite explanation of how to change. Knowing that the BU data is kept in different places for the App Store + Agilebits versions, I'm hesitant to just uninstall the Agilebits v + install the App Store v. Your help once again would be appreciated.

Because of my lack of HD space, I'd also like to know how to change the auto-BU location so I can save them on my SD card drive.
Thanks for your help,

Greetings @pamala,
So to try and answer your first question.
If you do decide to purchase 1Password for Mac from the Mac App Store then the best way to move from one to the other is as follows.
- Move the 1Password 5.app application from your
/Applications/
folder to your Trash. - Reboot your Mac.
- Purchase and download 1Password from the Mac App Store. This will result in a copy titled 1Password.app being stored in your
/Applications/
folder. - Launch 1Password.
The first time you launch the Mac App Store version of 1Password it will see that it doesn't have data in it's support folder location but that you do have a vault in the location used by the AgileBits Store version. It will copy the vault over and simply present you the request for your Master Password.
At this stage you could remove the support folder for the AgileBits Store version although keeping the backups wouldn't be a bad idea.
No in terms of the financial aspect there is sadly no way to migrate a AgileBits Store licence to the Mac App Store. We can't migrate users or even offer a discount to existing customers as the functionality doesn't exist in the Mac App Store for us to use. It sadly means those wishing the Mac App Store version have to pay full price. I would only recommend this for people that really insist on iCloud Sync support as this is the only difference between the two.
As for your second question. We don't a setting that will allow you to specify a user-defined location for backups I'm afraid or the ability to alter how many are kept. Even with all of the test vaults and AgileBits vaults my backups only come to 200MB. It might be your backups are far larger but it seems like it wouldn't be much of a gain to be made here. You can manually move the older backups and 1Password won't object but still, it seems like a small gain.
Can I ask, are you using any of the wide range of applications out there that show you where your disk space is currently being consumed? I've used one called WhatSize in the past and it was okay. I could instruct it to analyse my entire drive and it would then list folders in order of the total size. So I could start at the root of my user folder or root of the drive and drill down to what is taking up the space. It isn't the only one that does this by any means and I'm sure there are a few in the Mac App Store. I just wonder if it might help find areas to really make a difference.
