Cannot install Safari Browser extension for 1Password
I am a brand new user of 1Password, bought it yesterday from Apple Apps (1Password Version 6.0.1 (601004)) Apple App Store because I want to sync using iCloud. Had read the Mac 1Password user guide, noticed things were quite different from guide on first run, but just went with it. When it became clear I needed to install the extension, from 1password preferences I clicked Install Browser Extensions. Got Agilebits page with the Big Green Button. I clicked it then double clicked the install file in the Downloads folder. Got message asking if I was sure I wanted to install the extension, and I clicked "Trust". Finally the extensions on the Apple Inc website came up. First extension was !Password extension with "Learn More" under it which I clicked on. It brought up a description under which button said "Install now", which I clicked. I got the error message "Safari can't install this extension. An error occurred while installing the extension "1Password".
I tried installing several other extensions on this Apple page and was successful with all of them. It was only the 1Password Safari extension that failed. 1Password itself seems to be partially working. When I logged onto some websites, I was asked if I wanted 1Password to save the password. I said "yes". I haven't seen 1Password Mini yet, but I'm not sure where to look for it now since things are different from how they are described in the latest User Guide.
1Password Version: 1Password Version 6.0.1 (601004) Mac App Store
Extension Version: Don't know
OS Version: OS Version 10.11.2
Sync Type: iCloud

Hello @JALender,
It sounds like you first attempted, maybe succeeded, in installing version 4.5.2 from our website and then attempted to install the extension again from Apple's Safari Extension Gallery. If you did successfully install version 4.5.2 then the error message is expected although not very helpful. Safari won't allow you to install multiple copies so the second one fails.
Can you try the following for us please.
- Launch Safari.
- Open Safari's preferences and switch to the Extension tab.
Do you see an entry in the list on the left hand side for 1Password and when you select it does it say you have version 4.5.2 installed?

Yes, it does show that version 4.5.2 is there when I look in Safari's preferences and look at the extensions tab. Do I therefore assume that the install was successful even though I got the "can't install" extension every time (even the first time). It seems like the 1Password extension was doing things, like asking me if I wanted to save a login with 1Password. That only happens if the extension was installed successfully, right? I'm going to assume that the "Can't install" message was bogus, since I even got it the first time.
As to the question if anything in the knowledge base helped. It did a little bit, but it seemed that all the other users who got the message had been users of 1Password for awhile and had done other installations, while I was a completely new user, having only installed 1Password from the Apple apps just this past Saturday. All of the other situations in the knowledge base didn't seem to fit, although now I see that a couple did have the same result that I did, with a 1Password extension already sitting in Safari extensions.

One other thing, my first install attempt of the 1Password Safari extension was from Apple, and I got the "Can't install" message. There was a hint somewhere around that time that if it didn't work from Apple, I could try it from the Agilbits website, and I think at that point I tried that. That might be where it actually install from, but I did try from Apple first.

Hi @JALender,
I'm happy to hear the 1Password extension seems to already be installed! From your description, it sounds like the 1Password extension is working correctly, otherwise (as you suspected) it would not prompt you to save new Login items.
I don't know why you originally got an error message when you first tried to install the 1Password extension from the Safari Extension Gallery, but if you currently have version 4.5.2 of the extension installed, that means you definitely installed it from our own website. The reason I say that is because the latest version available from the Safari Extension Gallery is 4.4.4 (we're not sure why Apple hasn't published the latest version there, but that's another story).
Hopefully you're all set now, but if you have more questions or need anything else, just let us know. :)

Thanks! I'm sure I'll have tons of questions in the future.
