1P not auto-filling ID and password fields?

Since installing the 1P update on 14 January, 1P is no longer auto-filling the ID and password fields on any of the websites that I use (e.g., eBay, PayPal, etc). I can still do Command-/ to populate the fields. But when I click on a Login item in 1P, 1P opens the webpage but does not autofill the fields.

Is there a configuration setting somewhere that I need to re-activate?

@pomme4moi please try updating to the 4.5.2 version of the 1P extension. You can get it from this page.

  • Hi @pomme4moi,

As Stephen mentioned, you'll want to get 4.5.2. Usually it upgrades itself, but in some cases it doesn't. What you'll want to do is:

    • Open up Safari > Preferences > Extensions
    • Select the 1Password extension, and click the Uninstall button.
    • Go to this page to download the latest Safari extension.

    I hope this helps.

I've got the same problem (no auto fill of username & password). I'm using Safari 9.0.3 and 4.5.2 extension. Everything was working mostly normal (some logins needed me to push the Enter key to complete the login), prior to the upgrade. Was waiting for you to come out with an update to your update but maybe only a few of us are having this problem. Any ideas on how to fix it? Thanks.

@Frankwilliamson The most important thing for us to know is how you're invoking 1Password's form filling. Is it by manually navigating to the page and then pressing Command-\ or choosing the item from the browser extension; do you search for the item in 1Password mini; or do you click on the URL in the main 1Password application? Each of these leads the extension and 1Password itself down slightly different code paths, so it's important for us to know which of those to investigate.

The other thing is to check if this is happening on every site or just a few. If it's just a few, please let us know the URLs if you can and we'll investigate. If it's all of them, that's obviously a more serious and 1Password-systemic kind of problem to investigate.

Thanks for your patience and assistance while we work with you on this.

I installed the new extension as suggested, and am now using 4.5.3. 1P now auto-fills the ID and password fields on the webpage, but 1P is not emulating the pressing of the ENTER key.

    My steps:
    1. From within the 1P app, I double-click on the item (e.g., PayPal).
    2. 1P opens the PayPal webpage and populates the ID and password fields
    3. Then nothing happens - I have to click on the webpage Login icon to submit my credentials (not a big deal, I know, but 1P did this automatically prior to the latest update)

I've tested 6 websites and they all perform as above. FYI that I do not use 1P-mini.

  • Hi @pomme4moi

We've been seeing some reports of Auto-Submit not working. This issue should be specific to the Mac App Store version of the app. There was a bug in 1Password 5 where Auto-Submit on the Mac App Store version of the app could get into a funny middle state where the main app's preferences would show it as disabled, the mini would show it as enabled, and when you'd fill a site it would also be in a middle state: it would try one of the two methods we have for submitting. We fixed that bug in version 6, but in doing so, all those users who were in the middle state got moved back to the off state.

The fix for this is to go in to 1Password > Preferences > Browser, and make sure that the checkbox is enabled for automatically submitting logins after filling.

Check to see if that's a case, and let us know how it works out for you.

Thanks rickfillion. Auto-Submit was not working for me after the update where it had been working faultlessly before I updated. Jxpx777 posted a somewhat technical and confusing reply that seemed to abdicate your company from any responsibility of publishing an update that doesn't work. Thanks for explaining what is going on and removing the "somehow it's the user's fault" stigma. Followed the steps and now it's working.

As for the suggestion in another thread that you guys start a "chat" feature, I could state that the way Sonos runs their Support forum with the "chat" feature is phenomenal. FAQ's, then emails, with a "chat" line where they can take over the computer and fix the problem directly. Saves a lot of frustration for non-techies. Thanks again.

That did the trick. Thanks Rick and Stephen!

  • Hi pomme4moi,

Glad to hear it is working again. If you have any further questions, do not hesitate to let us know.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
