I goofed when doing v6.1 Upgrade

My first time here. Thank you in advance for any help offered.

Have been using 1Password for some time now, love it. Yesterday I got a notification on my MacBook Pro that the 6.1 Upgrade was available. My hasty reaction was yes, do it, get back to work.

When I accepted, a warning said I have multiple copies of the program, etc etc. I keep an external drive plugged in, to which I clone my startup drive every night. I assumed since the Updater was seeing both the 1PW programs (ok, Apps... I'm an old timer). So, without thinking too much about it, I used AppCleaner (I know, I know, I should have read the instructions first) to remove what I though was just the extra copy from the clone drive. But guess what? Now I was messed up because App Cleaner send every little thing from both drives, to the Trash.

Somehow after ejecting the external drive I was able (and I can't really figure out why) to do the Update to the startup drive after which 1PW (6.1) worked just fine. So I remounted the external drive and did my normal nightly clone routine. Today it's all working fine.

But now, after thinking about it, I'm afraid to Empty the Trash as all those itty bitty /library/ files are in there.

So the question is, is it safe for me to empty the trash, or is 1PW still accessing those files or will it have created new ones?

  • Hi @skipjones ,

The easiest way to make sure the files in the trash aren't being accessed is by quitting 1Password and 1Password Mini. Quit 1Password by holding down the control key while selecting Quit 1Password and 1Password mini from the 1Password menu.

Then launch 1Password again. If you can unlock with your Master Password, and see your items, then you will be ok to empty your trash, at least as far as 1Password goes. Since you used an AppCleaner, make sure it didn't throw out any files from other apps.

Thanks for taking the time to write us. If you have further questions, feel free to reply.

    Cheers,
    Kevin
