adding vaults in 1password Team

Hello, prior to signing up for a Team account, I used multiple vaults in 1password 6 to manage various projects. Now that i'm on team, I don't see an option to add those other vaults which I want to import into teams. Is there a way to link to those older vaults for the purpose of importing?

Thank you

    Hi @cbillen,

We have an article titled Migrate to a Family or Team account which shows how we currently envisage migrating from standalone vaults to Teams/Families vaults which I believe you've visited already.

Can I ask, the copy of 1Password that you're currently using, was it set up starting with a Team account or from a more traditional standalone primary vault?

The reason I ask is I know we're still working hard to improve a lot of aspects to the applications in regards to standalone or Teams vaults and one area we still need to work on is here. If 1Password is started in Teams only mode it currently isn't possible to add or import from an Agile Keychain or OPVault. What seems to be the only option right now is to add the Teams account to a copy of 1Password for Mac that started off in standalone mode and already has the vaults added to it. From there the article I linked to above will work.

So can you tell us a little about what copies of 1Password (if any) have your vaults with the data you want to move or if you have Agile Keychains or OPVaults in Dropbox and we can try and come up with the easiest route forward.

Hi there, yes it is a fresh download and started in Team mode. I create a team for my company, and a team for my personal/family stuff, I have 3 vaults in dropbox right now i'd love to simply load up in my family team. Let me know how best to proceed

    Hi @cbillen,

I get the feeling you're quite comfortable with 1Password so the following will be at a fairly high level, let me know if more details are required if I've been too light in the description.

Basically what you will want to do is start over again on one of your Macs. You will want to point 1Password to what was your original primary vault and then add your secondary vaults so that you once again have a copy of 1Password as it was prior to trying out Teams. You can then add your Family account and you will now have a copy of 1Password where you can copy all the contents from the personal vaults to the family vaults. Once everything is copied over you can start over (again) and return to a Teams only state.

Honestly? while none of it is hideously complex it is not user friendly in the slightest and something we do need to improve on. We will, it's just a shame it won't be ready any time soon when you could really use it.

One last thing, and it may be just a particular choice of word but the pricing structure is/will be quite different between 1Password for Teams and 1Password Families. They'll differ in features too, companies want certain features that just don't apply to families but I mention it just in case you've created two Teams accounts and intend to use one for family stuff. A Families account can be used by 5 family members for a single cost while a Teams account will eventually be per person. The Families account will offer better value for money so I just want to make sure you're going down the path best for you and ow is the time to figure that out. You may mean you have a Families account for your family in which case you know all of that already and can safely ignore it

If you need more details about the tedious steps to import the contents of your vault from Dropbox into your Families account please do say

Thank you, yes the instructions make sense. I'll just restore my 1password to the original state with the dropbox vault and move them over. We have purchased quite a few 1password licenses for our company and it is very tedious to setup different vaults for different department. We like what you have done with Team, it will greatly simplify that and remove the need for a dropbox account for each which we solely use for that purpose today. I also use 1password for keeping track of my family account and for various projects I have on the side. That's why i was thinking creating a "Family" team make sense but if you see a better way let me know. I hope it won't cost me an arm and a leg and that there will be a way to somehow convert these licenses i bought for 1password 6 to team.

    Hi @cbillen,

I'm glad to hear that Little Bobby's answer helped you out, and thank you so much for the kind words about 1Password for Teams - we're thrilled that you're enjoying it so far!

As mentioned above, the 1Password Families account will likely be a much better solution for you to use for your family. As we continue to develop 1Password for Teams and 1Password Families, the products will further diverge, with more fine-grained access control in Teams, and a simple, family-focussed interface for Families. And the cost of $5/month for 5 people in 1Password Families is a lot more cost effective than the pricing model of 1Password for Teams, which will be on a per person basis. :)

The good news is that, if you've already set up a 1Password for Teams account for your family, converting into a 1Password Families account is simple. Just go to the Admin Console > Settings and choose the 'Convert to family' option.
