If I want to change my master password I have to change it in both my iOS device and my os laptop

I first bought 1password from your website about 3 years ago. I would sync through dropbox. Then i decided to change to iCloud once it became available. I repurchased 1password from the app store. I have it on my iPhone and my laptop. But when I change my master password on one device it does not transfer over to the other. I have to change it in the other also. I did not think anything of this since iOS is different than OS, but then I got my wife to buy 1password. She also has it on her iPhone and laptop and when she changes it on one it syncs over to the other automatically. I don't know how to fix this and do not want to screw something up and lose all my passwords. I have a lot. Been using 1 password for probably 3 years, maybe longer. Also, whenever I do an update on my computer 1password mini gets messed up. I just quite the app and then when I open it again it works.

    Hi @mdewaay,

Thanks for taking the time to contact us. I'm sorry that you are having some trouble.

In order for a Master Password change to sync, you need to first unlock 1Password with your old/existing Master password, then the change can sync. It is only then that the new Master Password will take effect.

You see, the change needs to sync before 1Password knows about it. But it cannot sync until it is unlocked. And you can only unlock it with the current Master Password because it doesn't yet know about the new one. I hope that makes sense.

Worst case scenario, you just change it to the same thing on both devices, and you did the work of syncing the change "manually". :)

I do want to make sure we get things resolved for you with regard to updates and 1Password mini. Can you help me understand what you mean when you say "whenever I do an update on my computer 1password mini gets messed up"? Do you see a specific error message, or…what makes you think 1Password mini is "messed up"? I'm sure we can get it resolved if you can share some more details about the issue.

    Cheers!
