Account Key - what to do with it?

Hi,

I have read the documentation on the Account Key and it is clear that it significantly strengthens security.

However, practically, how are you supposed to have the code when you need it? For example. when one of my colleagues goes home and wants to start using their home computer. Are they supposed to bring a print-out home with them? That seems to defeat the purpose.

Thanks,

Pavel

    Pavel -

Great question! You're correct -- the Account Key significantly strengthens your security by ensuring that you are protected by a secret with at least 128 bits of entropy.

As you might suppose, carrying around a 128+ bit secret can be a bit cumbersome. It can also be dangerous not to have a copy of your Account Key because losing it can mean you are no longer able to use your 1Password Teams account.

Our recommended Best Practices for 1Password Teams is for new users to immediately authorize all of their devices. Whether you are using iOS or our latest Android app, both mobile applications allow you to add your team account to that device and securely carry a copy of your Account Key home with you. This greatly improves your security by providing an additional copy of your Account Key in the event your work (or home, for our home users) computer has a catastrophic failure.

    How does that sound?
