Trying to explain to my 15 year old why 1Password is secure
Hi
Bit of topic, but I hope you'll help me ;-)
My 15 year old (who of course, as 15 year old boys do, knows everything) says he wouldn't use something like 1Password because if somebody got hold of my copy of the app they could tear it apart and, as it must know my password otherwise it wouldn't accept it, they could then gain access to everything AND because they'd then know how the app stored somebody's password they'd be able to crack all the other copies of the app.
Now, while I know a fair about computer cryptography, I don't believe I know it all. So while I'm pretty sure he's wrong..I can't explain to him why! Can you help me explain it?
Best wishes
andy

Great question, Andy. Of course 1Password doesn't know your password.
Some documents that may help:
About the 1Password security model - 1Password Support
AgileBits Blog | You have secrets; we don’t. Why our data format is public
(note that this one was written in 2013, and before 1Password memberships existed, but many of the principals are the same)
And if he wants the more technical details...:
1Password Security Design White Paper
I hope that helps. Should you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to ask.
