This issue has been occurring in 1Pwd Mac only since March 2023, at least from 8.10.4 to 8.10.18, and is still occurring. Same issue on macOS 13 or macOS 14. I never had this issue on 1Pwd 7 or 8 Windows. I never had this issue on 1Pwd 7 Mac.

This is not the same issue below linked to a Logitech keyboard.

I'm using a MacBook Pro M1 with an Apple Magic Keyboard with NumPad.

This other issue below is still closed, so I opened a new one.

I already made a post below on April 2023 about this issue, but it had no details and was mixed with the URL display issue still open.

To reproduce it, it's simple

  1. I save any item in editing mode.
  2. I click on 1Password menu bar > Lock 1Password
  3. Then I click on the fingerprint icon OR I enter my password.
  4. Then 1Password systematically opens in editing mode for a random login.

Please note☝️

This random login is always one that was recently edited, today or yesterday.
This random login is always in editing mode and shows an early version (for example it shows an old password if I recently changed a password, or an old version on the notes). If I click save, I will get an obsolete version of my login, I will get the previous version before the last edit. So each time I open 1Password, a random item is in edit mode, and I have to click on Cancel [top-right] > Discard Changes [on the menu box]. This is very concerning.

Unsucessfull tries

I tried to sign out > sign in, issue is still there.
I tried to uninstall > install again, issue is still there.
I tried to remove Touch ID, issue is still there.

Thank you.

    Description

Issue occurring on 1Pwd 8 Mac.
Never seen this issue on 1Pwd 7 Mac or Windows.
Never seen this issue on 1Pwd 7 or 8 Windows
Already seen on iOS, but just a few times.
Issue occurring since at least 1Pwd 8.10.4 Mac and still here on 1Pwd 8.10.18 Mac.

I already made a post below on April 2023 about this issue, but it had no details and was mixed with the URL display issue still open.

It's not this issue related to the Logitech keyboard
    https://1password.community/discussion/142597/1password-opens-in-edit-screen

It's similar to this issue that occurred on iOS, but mine is on macOS
    https://1password.community/discussion/138204/ios-app-randomly-showing-editing-an-item-on-opening-the-app

It's similar to this issue already closed

    It's similar to this issue
    https://1password.community/discussion/138397/1password-opened-to-edit-screen

    Steps to reproduce

    1. Open 1Pwd Mac
    2. Optionally click on Edit on the Microsoft.com item (it does not affect the issue: you lock 1Pwd with editing view or not)
    3. Click 1Password menu > Lock 1 Password
    4. Unlock with Touch ID or unlock with the password

    Random item that appears

Systematically a random item appears in edit mode. Let's say this random item is Google.com:

    • Sometimes the Google.com item appears in the [New item view] [the window in the center of the app]
    • Sometimes the Google.com item appears in the [Editing view] [the right pane of the app]
    • In both cases, Google.com always appears in the previous saved version state [not the last save], so the fields and the notes are not up to date.
    • If I click save, I will save an obsolete version of my item, and I will lose my latest modifications. So, each time I unlock 1Pwd Mac, I need to click on the cross [if New item mode] or on Cancel [if Editing mode], then I have to click on Discard Changes. It's very concerning.
    • Google.com is always an item that I updated recently (today or yesterday), but not the last one. The random item that appears is never an old one edited 2 weeks ago, but it's always a freshly saved one.
    • Google.com is never Microsoft.com: in case I locked 1Password when Microsoft.com was in the editing view, the item that appears on the next unlock is always another random one like Google.com, not the last edited/saved one.

    Unsuccessful tries

I tried to sign out > sign in, issue is still here.
I tried to uninstall > install, issue is still here.

    Thank you for your help.

  • Hello @VincentBounce! 👋

I understand that 1Password is opening the wrong item after you unlock the app. I'm sorry for the impact that this is causing your workflow and I agree that this needs to be investigated further.

That being said, I haven't been able to reproduce this behaviour myself. Would you be willing to create a screen recording of yourself reproducing the issue? You can find instructions on how to create a screen recording here: How to record the screen on your Mac - Apple Support

Attach the recording to an email message addressed to support+forum@1password.com.

    With your email please include:

You should receive an automated reply from our BitBot assistant with a Support ID number. Please post that number here. Thanks very much!

Thank you for your fast answer.

Please note in this video: the random item appearing in editing mode, and freshly updated by myself, is displayed in an old version. If I save it like this, I lose the JBR text added to the title. This happens every time I open 1Pwd Mac with a random freshly saved item. This is concerning.

I sent a diagnostic to the 1Pwd team.
The next day, they sent me this solution by email:

Thanks for sending over that diagnostics report. It shows that there is at least one draft item that is somewhat "stuck" between being saved and being discarded, which will most likely explain the situation in this case.
The solution in this case should be to reset 1Password on your Mac. Here's what to do:
⚠️ The following steps will archive 1Password's local database, including accounts, Logins, passwords, and other data. Please make sure that you can sign in to https://start.1password.com/signin/ and find all the items you would expect before proceeding.
    • Check that you have a copy of your Emergency Kit close to hand, or another device where you're still signed in to 1Password, and that you know your account password.
    • Open and unlock 1Password.
    • Click the 🔽 down arrow at the top of the sidebar and choose Settings.
    • On the Advanced tab, click "Reset 1Password".
    • You'll then be prompted to sign back in to your 1Password account. This will force a full re-sync with 1Password.com and there will be no more draft items in the local database.

This solution worked perfectly. After clicking on reset, 1Pwd closed immediately. Once I restarted 1Pwd on my Mac, 1Pwd didn't ask me for the recovery key or my email, it only requested my password. Then my items were downloaded, and the issue was gone! Thank you to the 1Pwd team for the efficiency of quickness of the treatment of my case.
