1Password for Windows on Arm (Preview)

Aug 21: Updated the preview build with a version that does not expire. Please uninstall any previous versions of the ARM preview before installing this one.

Hello all!

It's an exciting time for Windows PCs with Microsoft's big announcements this week of the new Surface line, Copilot+ PCs, and, of course, the availability of devices based on the speedy, Arm-based Snapdragon X Elite processor.

Not to be left out of the fun, we'd like to share with you the first preview release of 1Password for Windows on Arm. 💪🥳

Of course, it's already possible to install and use 1Password on Arm-based Windows PCs, but until now the app has run in a slower x86 emulation mode. This is our first Arm-native build of the app, which means it is able to take full advantage of the new silicon.

Early indications are that 1Password for Windows on Arm is blazing fast (and we haven't even got our hands on the new Copilot+ PCs — yet!)

Things to know about the preview release

This preview build for Windows is based on the current stable channel release of 1Password (version 8.11). We are calling it a "preview" for three reasons:

  1. We have done limited testing on real hardware outside of virtual machines, as the new Copilot+ PCs have only just been announced.
  2. If 1Password is already installed on your PC, you'll need to uninstall the app before installing the Arm preview.
    • Your accounts will transfer over to the preview build, but I strongly recommend setting up a recovery code before uninstalling the app to be safe.
  3. This build of the app app will not update automatically — you will need to check back here for announcements and future releases.

Apart than these considerations, the build is a complete experience, and you should expect to find the full level of functionality that's already available in 1Password for Windows.

If you'd like to be among the first to experience 1Password for Windows on Arm, download and install the preview release:

Please let us know how it works for you by sharing your feedback in this thread. The more quality feedback we have, the sooner we'll be able to exit preview and make the Arm version of the app available to everyone. 🔥

I just installed this preview release in my VMware Windows 11 VM and it does seem snappy and improved! Will leave feedback as needed.

Finally, it is here! I did install it on my Microsoft Surface Pro X some days ago, and 1Password works without any issue ARM64 native now.

Thank you for trying the preview release! I'm happy to hear that everything is working well so far, let us know if you do run into any issues. 🙂

Just got my CoPilot+ Snapdragon X Laptop today, and was pleased to find this thread. Just wondering how we go about keeping it updated or where we go to check for the most recent version? Is this thread going to stay updated or is there a more central location to check for updates?

Other than that, no issues so far, everything seems great.

    Thanks

Update: The OTA codes are all incorrect in this version of 1Password. The codes are identical on all other 1Password apps I’ve set up on different devices, but they differ on this particular version. Consequently, I can’t log in using the codes provided by this version of 1Password and have to retrieve the correct codes from other devices.

@cjbatyr Are you sure your clock and time zone are set correctly?

@keith15 it was the clock! Time zone was set correctly but the clock was off by a minute. I just had it synced and the 2fa codes are all correct now. Thanks!

  • @cjbatyr

I'm happy that setting the time resolved the TOTP issue. 🙂

Thank you for testing the preview version of 1Password for Windows on Arm! Let us know if you do run into any issues!

    @pcxnet

This special preview build won't update by itself. But you can check this thread for updated versions as they become available.

Its working great for me so far. It's extremely stable. Any timing on when it mainlines with the regular Windows beta?

  • @jjonathan313

I don't have any updates to share at the moment but keep your eye on this thread. I'm happy to hear that 1Password for Windows on Arm is running great on your Windows PC. 🙂

**1Password for Windows 8.11 (ARM64) - Main app is disconnected from browser plug-in on Firefox

    **

Thanks for introducing this version, it is fast and stable and arrived in time for our deployment of Microsoft Surface machines.

But there seem to be a disconnect between the main app and the browser (Firefox 28.0.3) (for your convenience, I'm attaching a screenshot). Even when the main app is unlocked, the browser plug-in is occasionally shown as "locked". Clicking on the icon of the browser plug-in brings up the main app (which is unlocked), but the browser plug-in icon continues to show "locked". As a result, the browser plug-in doesn't fill credentials in the browser.

This error remains with the latest stable plug-in as well as the current beta plug-in.

Please look into it. Thank you!

We can confirm that the problem originates with 1Password for Windows 8.11 (ARM64). We installed the affected app and replaced it with the current version for Windows (non-ARM64; 1Password for Windows 8.10.36). The problem disappeared.
To keep everything else unchanged, we didn't touch the Firefox plug-in, so we can conclude it is not the culprit.

    Hope you can fix it!

I couldn't replicate the issue with the Firefox extension. Extension version 2.26.1 on Firefox 128.0.3 arm64 works and integrates without issue with the arm64 1Password desktop app 8.11.0 (81100001) for me.

    Hello all,
Just purchased a new Windows 11 Copilot+ pc about a month ago and have been using the Windows 11 ARM preview version of 1Password.. Just today at boot up, since i have 1Password starting at boot, I get the following popup:
"This Alpha is reaching the end of its lifetime and will stop working in 6 days. Please get the newer version of this application".
Does anyone know if a newer version is being released? The notes to the release says it does not autoupdate. I've been checking the page and its still on version 8.11.

    1Password Version: 8.11 (preview)
    Extension Version: Not Provided
    OS Version: Windows 11 ARM
    Browser: Chrome

Hi. I believe this is from 1Password, but since there is no name on the dialog, I might be wrong.
For the time being, it looks like no updated build is available.

Any update on when the ARM64 version will go live? The beta seemed to be just about ready but expires in a few days.

1Password (and the SSH agent) is critical to my day to day work. It would be a real pain to have to workaround that arbitrary expiration date. Even more so when everything is working flawlessly.

I hope a new build is available soon. Thanks.

Thank you for the reports. The team is aware of the expiry message and are working on a solution.

If no new build is available in time, you can temporarily uninstall the preview version and install the regular version: Get the 1Password apps

Can we get an update on this please? As ARM-based Copilot+PCs become more prevalent on our networks, having ARM-compatible apps is key and 1Password is huge for us. Emulation is fine, but performance and battery usage will be better if you guys have a sustained ARM build. Thanks!

Got the same message indeed. 1Password for ARM works flawlessly otherwise.

I don't understand the point of the expiration date. 1Passowrd for ARM worked amazingly, without issues or bugs. Why are you terminating it? ))):
