Local vaults in 1Password 7 work across platforms, integrate with Safari, Chrome and Firefox, and don’t rely on Apple’s keychain at all. These local vaults, if the user chooses to, can be synced between devices (including mobile) via 3rd party services such as iCloud or Dropbox. Better yet, the vault can be synced over WiFi b/w your computer and phone without leaving the security of your LAN.
Furthermore, AgileBits had been, up until very recently, offering both a subscription and a stand-alone license model.
AgileBits claims that the vast majority of users chose the subscription model when 1P 7 came out, and they are using this reason to completely eliminate stand-alone licenses. However, this reason is extremely disingenuous, as AB made purchasing a stand-alone license in 1P 7 extremely difficult - pushing users to the subscription model at every turn.
Finally, a number of users, including myself, aren’t opposed to a subscription model outright, but we are vehemently opposed to the elimination of local vaults. Users should be allowed to have complete control over their data, and not be forced to store this data in a cloud (no matter how secure that cloud is).
