I'm sorry you're running into this. As a first step, can you try running this command in Terminal?
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -f -R /Applications/Safari.app
This will rebuild the launch services database which includes the extension. Let me know if it works!
