I'm happy that the workaround works for you. Hopefully the issue will be fixed in an iOS update soon.

โ€œFor now, when you see the screen asking you to choose between using a passkey or your security key, try tapping your security key without choosing either option.โ€

That worked. It auto selects the first one and I just put the key to top.
I will wait for a fix so it works the way it is supposed too.
I thought about trying that, but never did try until just now.
Thatโ€™s what we need you for so thanks.

  • Hello bugwhat! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Thanks for the report, this appears to be an issue with how iOS 17 handles security keys. Hopefully it can be fixed in a future update to iOS.

For now, when you see the screen asking you to choose between using a passkey or your security key, try tapping your security key without choosing either option. If that doesn't work then temporarily turning iCloud Keychain on for AutoFill appears to workaround the issue:

    1. On the Home screen, tap Settings.
    2. Tap Passwords > Password Options.
    3. Turn on Turn on AutoFill Passwords and Passkeys.
    4. Turn on Keychain. You can leave 1Password turned on.
    5. Authenticate to the app or website using your security key.
    6. Follow steps 1-3 again and this time turn off Keychain. Make sure that 1Password is on.

    I hope that helps. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just tried my physical key at a different web site and it did the same thing by redirecting me to settings, passwords, autofill.
So that tells me the trying to sign in using the physical key is not 1Passwords issue.
It is the new Apple iOS17 causing that one.
Now as far as passkeys goes not sure yet to be determined to be fair.
Other than that iOS17 seems better.

I agree with everything you are saying.
I am having problem's too with not only passkeys, but something else as well.
I think passkeys does not like the iPhone and it sorta likes computers better.
I was able to get one passkey by signing into google and creating one. So after that it did not exactly save to my exiting login either so ended up with two. So I deleted the other and renamed it.
Then I tried to use it at google and this qr code pops up that you basically can do nothing with.
So maybe it thinks I am trying to use a passkey other device not related to iPhone.
I โ€˜m just home using my iPhone cause thatโ€™s what I use two big iPhones.
So what I decided to do forget about the passkeys for now and so I deleted it from google and 1Password login. I will wait on passkeys freaking problems for now.
    Ok
My other problem is freaking been trouble shooting all night long on just two problems.
Passkeys is one as we all know.

Play attention support this is for you.
The other problem that blows my mind is.
I got the latest iPhone, latest ios 17, latest, 1Password.
So when I test trying to sign into 1Password website and it ask for either passkey or physical key I pick the physical key and so instead of letting me in, a pop up window re-directs me away to setting, autofill area in iOS instead of letting me sign in (crazy)!
So I close out that pop up and use the authenticator app and then I am in.
So is it the new iOS or the new 1Password version that is causing this?
