1Password 8 Feedback
Hello all,
I just switched to 1Password 8 and I like the overall concept, but I have found a few things that are missing (or maybe I can't just find them).
- Mini Widget: When clicking on the 1Password Icon in the Tray I don't get the 1Password Popup anymore as before, practically making the Tray Icon useless. The popup is still there, when I use the Safari Browser extension. Can the Popup be re-enabled somewhere?
- Excluding Vaults from All Items: I have a Vault that I had always excluded from "All items", such that I have to manually go into the Vault to get to the credentials. I am unable to find this option now and I keep getting the entries that I don't want to see in Search.
- Search: Searching now doesn't immediately filter the entries anymore, but has this little popup. If I want to have a filtered list I have to click on "Show all", introducing an unnecessary click.
Otherwise, I'm excited to try out the new features and I hope these minor annoyances can be fixed :)

Hi @J0n4t4n,
Glad to hear you're giving 1Password 8 for Mac a go! I'll come to each of your points in turn for clarity:
- 1Password mini has been replaced with Quick Access for keyboard-driven usage, and you can set the menu bar icon to open 1Password 8 fully, rather than just a mini view. (Preferences > General > "Click the icon to: Show the main window") Since 1Password 8 is very snappy and responsive, opening the main window is just as quick now as it was to open 1Password mini before, if not faster.
You can use ⇧⌘Space to open Quick Access, or bind a shortcut to show/hide the main window. Keyboard shortcuts are managed in Preferences > General.
It might take a bit of adjustment to get the hang of Quick Access instead of 1Password mini, but from personal experience at least, it's become second nature.
- The All Vaults view has been replaced with Collections. You could make a collection called "All Vaults" containing the vaults you want to make it work like before. You can have as many collections as you want with any combination of your vaults for different purposes, so there's more flexibility now than just the single "All Vaults" setting from before.
Then, if you're searching while you have a collection selected, it'll only search that collection.
- It sounds like you might want to try Find, rather than Search. Click Edit menu > Find, or press ⌥⌘F to give it a try. You'll see results immediately without pressing Enter.
Give those things a try and let me know how you get on. I'll be here if you need further help.

Thanks for the quick reply @ag_will!
- You had me at "keyboard-driven". I'll just have to get used to it then. Changing the Tray Icon behaviour to show the main window is also helping a lot.
- Ah, I missed that. That makes for an even better replacement!
- Yes, that does what I want. Even though I am confused about why these two are different and how the new Search would be better than Find.

2 questions related to 1PW8 {subscription}, and in lieu of starting a new thread, I'll ask here...
Just switched to 1PW8 (no intention to revert back to 1PW7) - all working fine. When the migration took place, did it delete the remnants (various data files) related to 1PW7? ...If no, where I can I find a files list (& locations) so I can manually delete?
Secondly but not related... Any ETA on when iOS 1PW8 will arrive?

Hey @J0n4t4n:
Glad to hear Will's answers helped you out! 😀
Generally speaking we'd recommend leaving the files that 1Password 7 used as is. As for when you'll see 1Password 8 for iOS, while it's currently in Early Access, we tend to keep specifically timelines pretty close to the chest.

More feedback for you. When opening PW8 on an Intel Mac Mini, the Apple Watch login option has to be selected manually, another irritating step. Sure this was not the case with PW7. Suggest that if AW is selected in prefs then opening the app should automatically open the AW login function. Cheers Robert

1password 8 came out of nowhere for me.
Seems lots have changed and I’m continually running into serious early day bugs that almost certainly would have been caught in decent beta testing. Generate certificates is yet to work once for me on either ipadOS or ios.Over on Testflight though, we’re all still rolling on with 7, I don’t get it !?

Greetings, I have just recently upgraded to 1Password 8 in my Mac and there are 2 behaviours that I have trouble with:
1) I have two accounts, in 1Password 7 I could enter the password for a master account and have both unlocked. Now I have to enter both passwords to unlock both vaults (several times per day).
2) The Search feature!! In 1Password7 the text in the top search box would filter all the results in the main windows. Now when I start to type my search, it only shows in the dropdown approving under the search. When I press enter, it takes me to the highlighted element but does not filter the view. I have hundreds of element, many sharing some common name "AWS as example" I like to be able to filter my view to only those elements. I see that I can achieve this by pressing "Cmd-Enter" but I'd like the ability to set it to the default option when I press "enter".
Lastly, my first thought on the new UI is that it feels harder to read, the items take more space. I feel the 1Password7 had a more compact easy to read view.
I understand that there are many other improvements behind the new version but these to me, on a day to day basis, makes me want to go back to the previous version. Small annoyances but when it happens multiple times a day, it ends up being a frustration.
I hope this helps make it better.

After 3 days of use, first impressions 1P8 vs 1P7:
IP8 works significantly faster and smoother.
Sync via the Agile server works significantly faster than Sync via iCloud (although as far as security is concerned, I trust iCloud more).
The cross-platform experience (Mac OS, Windows 10, iOS (both iPhone and iPad) is unbeatable in favor of the iP8. The application works the same everywhere. What is still missing in IP8 compared to IP7 is a significant lack of customization options and the removal of proven useful features in IP8.
I'm testing the Nightly release on one of the machines, although I still don't see significant improvements compared to the standard release, I expect an improvement in the coming weeks.
I also left IP7 installed everywhere until further notice. It works the same as before.

I'm noticing that search or find doesn't find matches in all fields in 1p8. Shouldn't 'all fields' be the default in 1p8? If no, where is that option?
Specific example: if you have bank accounts or drivers licenses that include the numbers or characters '1234' in that sequence in them, in custom or standard fields, search/find should match them. It does not.

Just installed 1P8, and I'm loving the update for the most part. I'm having trouble with a behavior that worked in 1P7, but I'm not sure how to do it in 1P8.
I routinely run several different browsers. I used to be able to launch 1Password mini with a shortcut key, type to filter the list, then hit enter on a site I want to open and fill. This would result in the site being opened in the active browser window (Safari, Chrome, Brave, Firefox).
With Quick Access, hitting enter opens the page in my default browser (Safari) regardless of which browser had focus when I launched quick access. It looks like Shift+Enter detects the application with focus, but assumes I'm sending the login to the browser application itself rather than opening the site in the browser and filling the login. Loading the page before launching quick access does cause the shift+enter shortcut to fill the password on the page in a non-default browser, but that means I have to grab the url out of 1P first before applying the login.
I can confirm 1P detects (e.g.) Firefox when I'm autofilling (Shift+Enter), because I get the warning about 1P not being able to determine if Firefox should have access to the login. There just doesn't seem to be a way to launch and fill in a non-default browser through quick access.
I know I can click the 1P extension icon in Firefox/Chrome/Brave to launch and fill in one of these browsers, but there's no shortcut key to open the extension, and it wouldn't be a universal action like Quick Access is. It would be really nice if the Quick Access screen used the browser window with focus as its first option, followed by a new default browser window as its second option if there is no browser with focus.

I also noticed that unlocking vaults using the Apple Watch is spotty at best. It used to work 95% of the time in 1Password 7. In 1Password 8 my experience is less than 50% of the time. Plus, now I have to enter individual password for both my vaults. I am thinking of going back to 1Password 7! The added annoyances are like an itch that won't stop. I hope it gets better soon.

I tried 1password 8 for a week, and I downgraded back to 7. I miss the old menu bar drop down, the ease of access for generating passwords, and all of the interface items that were easily accessible and standard in 1password 7. I understand that 1password 8 is trying to be more minimalist, but I prefer the easy accessibility and functionality. Bring 1password 7 menus and interface back!

I've been using 1password 7 for a long time and it has been great. Recently upgraded to 1password 8 and downgraded again. I've had two specific issues with 1password 8 on MacOS 12.
- Frequent hanging when attempting to fill passwords in to websites (using Brave browser)
- User flow to get OTP is significantly poorer (and again is further aggravated by the lag / hanging). The number of key strokes required to get an OTP into a terminal application is much longer
A feature that I thought was great was that 1password 8 seemed to be able to much better fill in fields in OKTA, and even could fill in the OTP (when it worked). I believe using the accessibility features to get the job done is a pretty good approach, but it really can't come at the cost of the user's ability to gain back control when the automations don't work.
The primary function of the app is a password database with a search feature, and we should be able to access passwords and OTPs easily when the autofill doesn't work. Everything else is secondary.
I feel like after the downgrade, I would stick to 1password 7 until I can have the confidence that 1password 8 fixes things, or 1password 9 comes along hopefully, as it really isn't feasible to check continually whether 1password 8 has fixed these issues.
