Confusing app and extensions offer on both macOS and iOS

I'm a long time 1Password user and I find the current app/extension offer for Apple user too fragmented.
I'm posting it on MacOS forum because on this platform this confusion is very obvious, but the "issue" affects iOS platform, too.

The current situation on MacOs is:

  • v7 with embed Safari extension on Mac App Store
  • A separate "standalone" Safari extension on Mac App Store, that can be linked with v8 desktop app, absent from MAS
  • v8 that can be only downloaded from your website and that doesn't contain any extension (due to Apple policies about extensions)

On iOS side v7 and v8 coexist. Passwords in Safari can be filled with your own extension or with native Autofill feature, and I bet most users struggle to understand which one to use

I thing this fragmentation is really confusing for the "average" Apple user. You used to have a streamlined (electron-free) Desktop and wonderful iOS apps, both easy to understand for everybody but filled with features for power users. I feel like that for most users this fragmentation is somehow frustrating and self-defeating for your business

  • Hi @giopiar:

Thanks for your feedback on this. While I can't promise anything, I hope that as we move forward with 1Password 8 into the future, this should be a bit clearer.
