Turning on 2-Factor Authentication in 1Password to use on website

Hi, when trying to scan a QR code to setup 2-Factor Authentication on a website from my iPhone, the website doesn't show up in the list of websites available to chose from in the 1Password app as being a website available to use with 2-Factor Authentication.

How do I add (turn on) the website in the 1Password app, so I can use the 2-Factor Authentication with 1Password using the QR code? It's not showing above the login information in the iPassword app as an option to use 2-Factor for that login in the 1Password app like it does for the other logins with available 2-Factor Authentication suggestions.

  • Hello @penguinNinja! 👋

You can use 1Password as an authenticator, and save your second factor in 1Password, by following the steps in this guide: Use 1Password as an authenticator for sites with two-factor authentication

Let me know if you run into any issues. 🙂

Thank you for getting back to me! I did use that link before submitting a question here, I should have said that, however when I had tried searching on Search 2fa.directory, the site doesn't show up, but I know it uses 1Password. It's ARQ Backup, It's just not showing up as being an option to use in the 1Password application itself. You know how 1Password will show you at the top of your login that you can turn on 2 factor on? it's not showing that. I hope I'm being a little clearer what's going on.

Thanks for the reply. If you don't see the 2FA banner at the top of your item in 1Password then you can still scan the QR code and use 1Password as an authenticator for a website:

    1. On your Mac, make sure that 1Password in the browser is installed: Install 1Password in the browser
    2. Navigate to the ARQ Backup website and follow the instructions on their webpage to display the QR code for 2FA.
    3. Click on the 1Password icon in your browser's toolbar.
    • Get help if you don’t see the 1Password icon in your browser’s toolbar.
    1. Find and click on the saved login item for ARQ Backup in 1Password's pop-up.
    2. Click on the three dots in the upper right corner of the item in 1Password's pop-up and then click Scan QR code.
    3. Finish setting up two-factor authentication on the ARQ Backup website.

    I hope that helps!
