"Apple Watch Unlock Stopped Working" Closed But NOT Fixed
This thread was commenced in November 2022 and closed sometime after Aug 2023 comment by 1P_Dave .
It is still a VERY frustrating issue that irritates me every day. I have to resynch the setting in System Settings to get the unlock for 1PW working again.
Has this been moved elsewhere or just dropped due to lack of interest? 1P_Dave

I'm happy to help. If Apple is able to get Apple Watch authentication for the system prompt working consistently on your Mac but you're still seeing issues with 1Password then let me know and I can help further.

Thanks for the reply and for performing the test with the macOS system prompt. If your Apple Watch isn't working with the macOS system prompt then it won't work with 1Password either. This matches the known issue that we're tracking and that our developers have reported to Apple.
I would recommend reaching out to Apple to see if they can provide any insight on why your Apple Watch isn't being made available to macOS (and as a result, to third-party apps as well) in certain circumstances.
I'm sorry that I don't have better news to share. If you do reach out to Apple and learn anything then please let us know.

Hi 1P_Dave . I got the error today when attempting to unlock 1Password. The Privacy - Advanced steps you outlined only yielded in the Apple prompt to enter my account password. Zip involving the Apple Watch. See screen cap.
Doing my usual trip to System Settings - LoginPassword - Toggle Apple Watch off, then back on gave the usual temp fix.
Thanks, John

Thanks for the reply. The flow used to unlock your Mac and the flow used to unlock third-party apps both work slightly differently. For example: you need to double-press the side button to unlock both 1Password and macOS system prompts but you don't need to do that to unlock your Mac.
Authenticating a system prompt is more similar to how 1Password uses Apple Watch unlock and can tell us if the issue that you're running into matches the issue that we've reported to Apple.

OK...I will do the specific test. But....my observation is that the Apple functions, such as unlock my Macs, etc work perfectly. Then I go to 1PW to unlock with Apple Watch and so often it will not work

Thank you for linking to that thread! The issue being discussed in that thread has been investigated by our development team and we've narrowed the behaviour down to issues with Apple's Apple Watch APIs. Our team has mitigated the issues as much as possible with changes to how we use those APIs and have filed feedback with Apple regarding the remaining issues that we can't workaround.
I'd like you to test to see if the issue that you're still experiencing is the same issue as the one discussed in that thread by seeing if the same problem occurs when you try to use your Apple Watch with an Apple system prompt. The next time that you're unable to unlock 1Password using your Apple Watch, please perform the following test:
- Click on the  in the menu bar.
- Click System Settings.
- Click Privacy & Security.
- Click Advanced.
- As a temporary troubleshooting step, turn on "Log out automatically after inactivity".
- You'll now see a macOS system prompt asking you to confirm the action. You should receive a double-tap notification on your Apple Watch.
Let me know the results. 🙂

HI Dave - thanks for the quick reply!

There are a lot of conversations in the Apple Watch area. I have not taken the time to see if this specific issue is being discussed there. So many of the conversations there seem vaguely similar when I looked a while back.

Hello VirgilBoy! 👋
I'm sorry that you're still running into issues with Apple Watch unlock for 1Password. In general, old discussions are automatically closed by our forum software after a certain amount of time has passed without any new activity in order to avoid confusing folks with threads that might no longer be relevant.
That being said, can you post a link to the thread that you're referring to so that I can take a look? I look forward to hearing from you.
