Dropbox split my 1Password database

Community Member

I reorganized my files in Dropbox. Uploading my reorganized DB folder, Dropbox split the 1Password file. I now have two 1Password databases, one in:

Dropbox/Current files/Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain (20 MB)

Another in:
Dropbox/Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain (333 KB)

The 2nd DB folder and file was created by Dropbox.

If I double click the unwanted file, I get a dialog box: "THIS FILE IS IN USE. The file is already being synced with the Primary vault."

At the Dropbox web site, there is an additional file, not visible on my computer: .ws.agile.1Password.settings

How can I merge the 2nd database with the correct DB? Why is there a hidden file?

    @DigitalOak

The hidden file is the sync pointer for the 1Password mobile apps. It controls which keychain they sync to. If you are using one it is important not to move or alter the file. Even if you happen to do so, 1Password should rather happily recreate the file.

As to being hidden its normal to hide such configuration files on the Mac. The Dropbox website just insists on showing file's with a "." at the beginning unlike a Mac which treats it as a hidden file.

I am going to leave the other portion of you query to the staff. You seem to have a little more complex setup than most. Is it possible you tried to create an additional vault ? I have seen such behavior out of Dropbox. It is however possible that its a remnant left over from a move of the keychain. I have seen Dropbox loose it's place so to speak and leave an occasional file behind. As I said the staff would need to help you on that. It was mainly just me thinking out loud.

    Hi, @DigitalOak.

It's not quite clear to me how you've ended up with two 1Password.agilekeychain files in Dropbox but we certainly can help you with any merging that's necessary and make sure 1Password is properly configured to use only one. :)

Do you have other systems and/or iOS devices currently using 1Password and syncing with Dropbox? And which versions are those? We want to make sure everything 1Password-related is accounted for and correctly configured.

As @thightower mentioned, your setup sounds a little complex so it would be easier to get this sorted out through email. To do that please start by sending us a Diagnostics Report that provides useful information about the current 1Password configuration on your system. Instructions are here:

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forum, but please do include a link to this topic in your email so we can "connect the dots" when we receive it. After analyzing that report we'll be able to better assist you. Thank you!

Thanks for the clarification of the hidden file. Surprised my setup is "complex>" I've had my 1P database in Dropbox for a year or two; the only thing I did was reorganize so I could use selective sync to keep a few files on every computer and everything on my iMac. Dropbox took three days to complete the sync, and that is when the addition databases appeared. I have four folders at the top level: 1 Current; 2 Files; 3 Archive; 4 another Archive. Dropbox added a 5th: Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain(333kb). The primary database is 1Current/Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain.

Dropbox is also on a MacBook Pro, a G5, an older iMac (that will replace the G5), and 2 iPads and 2 iPhones.

    Hi, @DigitalOak.

Thanks for sending the report from your iMac and posting additional information here about your setup.

Part of the problem appears to be that the "hidden" .ws.agile.1Password.settings file is referencing this keychain in your Dropbox folder:

    2 Current Files/Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain

… while other instances of 1Password have somehow referenced this one:

    Database/1Password/1Password.agilekeychain

The latter, being as small as it is, probably doesn't contain any 1Password data.

We'll be following up with you more about this in email as soon as possible.
