Hello,

I am wondering if somebody can tell me the most efficient way to migrate my datafile onto a new Macbook without syncing to Dropbox.

Is File>Export>All Items the way to go, and then simply import this data into 1Password 4 on the new machine?

Any help is appreciated

  • The export option isn't a great idea since it's not encrypted.

    Try this instead:

Enable local folder syncing on your old Mac. That will create an Agile Keychain file that can be transferred to your new Macbook Pro. After you've transferred the file, and you open 1Password 4 on the new MBP, you can choose I've used 1Password before, then select that your data is on This Mac, and choose the 1Password.agilekeychain file you transferred.

    Hope that helps! :)

Thank you very much - that's perfect.

One additional question - should I drop the file into the same file path that it exits on my other computer

    Library > Application Support > 1Passsword > 1Password.agilekeychain

Perhaps a better way to ask is, if I drop this onto my desktop and import from there, will 1Password create the sync structure in Application Support, or will it continually look to sync to the file on my desktop (which I will shred)

    Thanks

1Password 4 uses a SQLite database for your data rather than an Agile Keychain file, so the 1Password.agilekeychain should not go into the Application Support folder. The Agile Keychain is only used for some syncing purposes.

Import the Agile Keychain it from the desktop and once everything is successfully setup in the app, go to the syncing preferences and ensure that no syncing method is selected. Then you should be able to delete the 1Password.agilekeychain file from your desktop, and everything will remain in 1Password 4's internal database. :D
