1Password plugin not suggesting login

Hi all,

I have an annoying problem. The 1Password plugin (tried Chrome and Safari) does not suggest the login for one of my sites:

https://weblogin.umich.edu

When I delete the login in 1P and try to login, 1P does not prompt me to save the username/password either. So I have to put it in 1P manually. I put "https://weblogin.umich.edu" in as the website for the 1P entry, but it never "suggests" that site when logging in. I always have to search for it. This is the central login for our university and I log into this multiple times daily. So it's annoying to have to search every time. Anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks!

    Hi @ZBoT,

Thanks for including the URL in your original post, that makes it a lot easier to test things out here. :) I understand how important something like a college Login can be! I was able to create a Login that behaves correctly using these steps:

    • Edit the login that you currently have for this website by appending an "Old" to the title - just so you can tell them apart.
    • Visit the site and fill in the fields you want filled. Do NOT click the login button.
    • Click the 1Password extension, and unlock it if necessary
    • Click the gear icon (or vault icon if multiple vaults are enabled) in the upper right corner.
    • Select Save new login.
    • Give the entry a unique and identifiable title.
    • Click Save.
    • Revisit the site and see if 1Password fills in the site correctly.

I tested in Chrome and when I was on the site, typing ⌘\ filled my 'fake' Login nicely, and clicking on the key icon opened the Mini with the UMich Login right at the top.

Please let me know if you are seeing something different and we'll do some further investigating!

Thanks for the reply Megan! I tried the steps exactly as you posted above. When I get to "Select Save new login" I do that but 1Password never opens anything. I tried in both Chrome and Safari. I also "Reset Safari..." (Cleared caches) and tried again but the Save New Login box never comes up for this site. It comes up just fine for other sites when I manually select "Save New Login" (I tried Amazon for example). Anything else to try?

    Hi @ZBot,

I admit, you've got me a bit baffled here. Could you please send us a Diagnostics Report so we could take a closer look at your system?

    http://learn.agilebits.com/1Password4/diagnostic-report.html

Then attach the entire file to an email to us: support+forum@ agilebits .com

Please do not post your Diagnostics Report in the forums, but please do include a link to this thread in your email, along with your forum handle so that we can "connect the dots" when we see your Diagnostics Report in our inbox.

Once we see the report we should be able to better assist you. Thanks in advance!

    Hi Megan,

I just sent the Diagnostic Report. I also captured the problem on my computer to a video and posted that on YouTube (unlisted). I put a link to that in the email as well. I played around with this a little more and found if I don't use my real username and password 1Password actually does bring up the prompt to save the login (shown in the video). As soon as I put in my real username/password it does not though. Also as far as suggesting, I have multiple umich.edu logins saved. I think it is recommending them all and not just the one I need. So I've added a space to the front the one I need most and now that is the first one in the list. Not perfect but I think that helps. So I was able to save the login using a junk username and password. Then I went back in 1Password and corrected that and put a space in front of the name. Now it works for what I need. You still might want to look into this though as it was odd it does not save my login using my real credentials. Thanks for your help!!

    Hi @ZBot,

Thanks so much for providing some more information here!

I played around with this a little more and found if I don't use my real username and password 1Password actually does bring up the prompt to save the login

This does make sense. If your current username and password are already stored in 1Password, it will notice that you are entering the same information that is already stored and will not automatically prompt you to save. It turns out that what you demonstrate in your video (thanks so much for sending that in, by the way!) is a bug. 1Password should allow you to bring up the 'Save New Login' dialog box here via the menu, even though your information is the same as the information already saved in 1Password. We'll do our best to get this behaving for you properly soon! In the meantime, your solution of saving the junk username and password and then editing the entry is a great interim fix.

I have multiple umich.edu logins saved. I think it is recommending them all and not just the one I need.

If you have multiple Logins saved for a site, 1Password can't determine which one you want to fill with. In cases like this, you should see the extension open up with the available Logins. The best way to get 1Password to behave automatically in these situations is to give each Login a unique title. Then, try logging in like this:

    • Click the key icon in the menu bar, or use Control-Command-\ to open 1Password Mini
    • Start typing the name of the Login you want to open
    • Once the Login is highlighted, hit Enter
    • 1Password does all the hard work for you: opens the page, fills your information, and submits if you have it enabled!

So I've added a space to the front the one I need most and now that is the first one in the list. Not perfect but I think that helps.

You can also mark an item as a Favourite: click the star under the title of the entry to add it to your Favourites list. Then it will always pop up at the top of your list of Logins. (I do this to quickly find my most used Gmail account among the many other Google accounts I have amassed over the years!)

I'm glad to hear that you were able to get a working Login, eventually, although I do apologize that I didn't recognize the bug earlier - it's a new one to me! Since we've gotten things sorted out here, I am going to close your ticket in our email system, but do not hesitate to contact us, either here or via email if you have any further questions :)
